For Those Who Dont Read Dirtwheels But Wanna Know

Recommended Posts

I see the "banshee vs yfz vs raptor" question all the time and I just was in the family library (shitter) looking through dirt wheels and I wanted to post a quote from the may issue where they pitted the banshee against the raptor against the yfz 450

" A good banshee pilot, who knows how to work the six-speed manual shift gearbox (the raptor 660 and yfz450 use five speed, manual clutch transmissions), will still have a slight edge over the yfz450 in the sand. However, when it comes to modified motors, the easily modified banshee two-stroke motor is the king of horsepower. It is relatively simple and not that expensive to get almost double the horsepower on the banshee mill, going from 35-37 hp to a whopping 40-60 hp! The four-stroke raptor and yfz450 motors are considerably more expensive to extract more power from and their tendency to hand grenade multiplies significantly with power increases. "

I hope this will help some of the people who ask "the question" on here all the time.

that sure isnt what i hear about them all the time. in almost every video i see stock 450s are walking on ported banshees. something tells me that saying the banshee wins is some kind of sales ploy for yamaha. yamaha has some deep pockets that dirtwheels has their hands in. i dont trust any shootout any magazine does. i go out and see for myself. the videos ive seen dont lie. over and over again ive seen it exactly the opposite of the way they describe it.

I dont think that a stock 450 will beat a ported banshee. My buddy and younger brother both have stock 450's, and my banshee with the mods listed below was beating them both time after time when we were draggin in the dunes. My buddy just put complete exhaust, air filter, and jets in his; so i am curious to see what he can do.......

It really all depends on traction. I raced a 450r who left me on the holeshot, but I was pulling him at 300ft. If we were racing further than that I would have had him. All I had at the time were pipes and timing advance. Those 450s are awesome bikes but they don't have the topend a Banshee has.

Then again all we're really talking about is HP. When it comes down to handling we all know the 450 is the clear winner.

in the sand.

That's what they're saying...know one should doubt that a worked banshee will eat any other specimens found in the sand.:headbang::clap:

no doubt a built banshee will kill most everything in sand. i dont doubt that one bit. but dirtwheels is talking about stock for stock. im pretty sure everyone knows that a 450 should walk away from a stock banshee. theres nothing more i like to see that a banshee killing some 4 stroker in the sand. but the reality of it is that stock for stock the 450 will have it.

thats awsome, but give it two weeks and a newbie will ask the same question that every other newbie asks....and it goes like this

My buddy has a 450f and i have a banshee....he has bla bla bla done to it, and i have bla bla , and some bla bla bla, so who do you think will win in a race?

there is no way to get around that question unless we made it a perment topic so they notice it before posting it. It was a good question the first time someone asked it, but it just never seems to go away.

It'll go away as soon as another sport quad comes out.

You have to fiqure the 450 is a new bike with a lot more technolgy in it. Just like new vets will beat old vets. I am sure the 450 was built with lighter components and with beating the banshee in mind. The shee has remained basicly unchanged for 10 years. I don't care what any mag. or forum says I will rely on the faithfull reliabilty of the banshee. :headbang:

If there is one thing I have seen with 450 is they reward bad riders. You don't even have to know how to ride to get one of them to move. A Banshee is alot trickier to ride. Most of the races I have seen have come done to poor Banshee riders vs. 450's. Not to insult the 450 one bit, but it's so easy to ride. It's got plenty of power, great traction and it's light, if you're not fast on it, there is a problem.
