If Im A Little Rich How Bad Can It Be?

Recommended Posts

I had what felt like a little lein condition in the mid range so I raised my needles they are as far up as they go. with 290 mains stock pilots air screw 1.5 turns out about 1000 ft. My insulator is medium chocolate where you can see it. but my base ring is black and wet to about the 2 or 3rd ring on the plug when hold it wot and kill it and pull the plugs and do a plug check. My heat range seems good with br9es. but my quesion is will this rich condition make me loose that much power. It seems to rev nice and it runs great. but I dont want to cause problems should I put in smaller mains. lower my needles leave the good running banshee alone or what. all help is appreciated

thanks again guys!!!

If it runs good your probably fine. I think on a dyno you may see some loss. But if you dont need every bit of power your probably fine. Some down falls that I can think of would be, Less gas milage, maybe a lil more build up in engine, and a slight bog. ;)

Just curious what you air intake is like, (lid, snorkle....) Also temp where you live. I have 340's and after two days of riding the plug is brown. Clips is on 4th pos..

I would think with no lid and pipes you might be lean with 290's. You could be rich in the needle and not on the main but a WOT test would tell you and you say you did that. ;) Id go a lil richer on the main and leaner on the needle but I'm no expert. I'd just be a lil worried on a cool spring night. Id do another test and if it is the same results stick with it. Maybe someone else can help you better.

I was thinking of doing exactly that. I havent done a plug chop but when I go through all 6 gears and hit wot and hold it and pull in the clutch and kill it and pull the plugs the base ring is black and a little wet. my porcelin that I can see is chocolate but I havn't done a plug chop. I did this test back when the air temp was 45-50 and It looked about the same. maybe a little less dark and wet but I was looking at the porcelin then not the base ring so Idk if it might have been dark then too.

I had 290 mains with the needle as far up as it goes but Im in the process of bumping up to a 300 main and raising the needle one clip position to see what the does.

One clip on the needle is equal to half a main jet size. So if you richen your needle one clip and richen your main one size, you've richened the midrange and effectively gone up on the mian 1.5 sizes.

One other thing, bump your main, then do a check, then bump your needle. Don't do it all at once, this way, you'll know what change caused what. If you change both, and it runs funky, you won't really know which did what. Another way to look at it, if you raise your main, the top end of the needle (top of the midrange) will be a tad richer also.

My suggestion: bump your main to 300 and see what shee does. THEN, try bumping your needle. If she runs good with the 300 and starts to bog after you bump the needle, you know what the problem is.

sorry I wrote my last post wrong. what I did was bump the main to a 300 and lowered the needle to effectively lein the needle one clip postion and richen the main hopeing that this will dial it in a little better. I thought with my needle as rich as it goes this couldnt be right I had port work and other mods on my other shee and didnt have my needl as right as it went. However I had toomey needles in that shee Idk if that makes that much of a difference or not. I cant ride it right now cause Iv got my baby with me and my gf is at work but Ill try it later.

also I dropped one of my slides and bent the needle I bent it back but I still had a hell of a time getting it back in should I get new needles or will this be ok???

thanks guys!!
