rebelbanshee2 Posted May 18, 2004 Report Share Posted May 18, 2004 Two weeks ago at the end of the day my bike started breaking up real bad at half throttle, it could barely get on the power band. I figured i got water on the filter and it was choking, because it has been very wet. I was also jetted rich and figured that added to it. So this week I go out to ride with a fresh filter and its runnng just like a champ. I hit some water/mud stuff and it starts doing what it did last week. I look at the filter and its dry, so i figure ill at lease get it jetting in nicely to eliminate that as a problem. I drop down one on the pilot and main and it is running like a super champ now. Im like WTF one the jetting couldnt have done just that. So i go through the same mud place again, this time slowly. Sure enough, craps out. So i let it sit for 10 minutes, fire it up and it runs great. It ran great for quite a while, I was going real easy in all water, then i got into a really when trail and i knew i was going to be screwed again. sure enough sputtering again. Now i Know it isnt the filter or jetting, I let it sit for a few again and its back to being a champ. So after all that it leads me to where i am now, my wiring harness on my desk in search of a short of some kind. Im pretty sure it has to be electrical. There was very little water in the stator cover. Only alittle drizzled out I have had WAY more than that in there and still have it run so I dont think it is that. Im just wondering if anyone has anyother ideas besides the wiring. It starts, idles fin but doesnt like any RPMs when it is wet. BitchenBanshee Posted May 18, 2004 Report Share Posted May 18, 2004 I had water in my stator and it still ran great. Mine did the same thing when I bought it. My wiring harness had a frey near the airbox. The airbox has 3 fingers which hold the harness close to the box. Well these fingers wore a hole in the harness and everytime I hit water, it would make a connection. It ran exactly as you describe. Sometimes I couldn't get it to start until it was dry!. I finally found it by allowing the bike to run, then taking a garden hose and slowly soaking everything until I found the general location. No Limit Powersports Posted May 19, 2004 Report Share Posted May 19, 2004 buy a new stator cover gasket mine used to do this all the time I guarantee this is it. fixitrod Posted May 19, 2004 Report Share Posted May 19, 2004 Stock banshee carbs do not like water. They just don't. Someone put clamps on the choke tube and swore that helped. I did a ton of work trying to get the stock carbs water happy and I never prevailed. I bought some 28mm flat slides and never had a problem again. Good Luck!!!! Oh, and I'm going to assume that you eliminated the parking brake switch.... But you know what happens when I assume. Just another thought.
