nickxc
Ok I like my pipes I like the power and I like the sound. But my silencers have been nothing but a headache. so far both silencers have broken off where they are welded to the stinger tube and one mount broke. I will have a hundred dollar bill in 3 month old silencers by the time its all done. I tried several times to email fmf with no response so finally I got them on the phone today and they said mail them my silencers and they will weld them for me. Well I live in NY so they said about 3 weeks down time THREE WEEKS!! I ride every day. by the time I wait 3 weeks and pay to have them shipped I might as well have them welded locally so thats what im doing but how can I make them quit breaking??? Its just a headache!!

BenBB
I haven't had any trouble with mine, are you sure they aren't in a bind when mounted?
nickxc
Ben first I wanna say that your jetting faq page is awsome. I know how to jet but anyone who has any questions about jetting a banshee I send them to that page. Now I dont know if mine are mounted right. Do you have pics of yours mounted by chance. The only bolt holding them in is the one on the stinger tube to the frame is there supposed to be some kind of mounting on the silencer too??? They where put on by a dealer but what do they know. Any way thanks for the help...
Otis
There should be 2 bolts per side. There's a mounting tab by the stinger, and one on the silencer itself. If the dealer mounted 'em, I'd head back over there and talk to them first.....sounds like they might have F'ed up, have them fix it..... If no one else has any pics to post up soon, let me know and i'll take a few and email 'em to ya..... Edited May 19, 2004 by Otis
nickxc
Cool, Thanks guys. They where put on at a dealer back in rochester and I live about 4 hours from there now but Im gunna head to the closest dealer and see what they have for mounting hardware for the silencer and get it done if I have to pay at least I wont be breaking silencers. BenBB
Thanks nickxc. Here's one pic I have that shows the lower mounting bolt. Stock silencers have 3 mounting bolts per side, my FMF silencers only use the rear two (the front one is a bitch to get to anyway). This shot shows the lower mounting bolt. The other mount is at the top center, more or less, of the silencer canister. It uses the front bolt hole for the grab bar to the frame. I got my silencers used with no hardware so I cut about a 1" spacer out of some aluminum tubing, and used a longer bolt (12mm?) to go through the silencer, grab bar, and into the frame. Sorry but I can't find a pic that shows that one well. This pic sort of does but you can't see the spacer...

J..J.
Not any where close to my bike right now, but I seem to think that the rear mounting tab (the one for the cannister) has a nylon or teflon grommet to stop vibration. Nick, does yours have this?
cgamla
I bought mine used and they came without that rubber vibration damper so I just went down to advance auto parts and bought some generic rubber grommets that were supposed to be in valve covers of engines. I had to trim them a little and squash them between to large washers but they work great.
nickxc
Mine dosnt have anything on those taps. I went riding last night and I lost the mounting bolts on both the silencers and didnt know it till one fell off I had to put it on and rid slow so they wouldn't fall off again. damn!!
