a lot of money is right.

racing requires suspension. wider axle, wider a-arms and shocks to be specific. these will greatly enhance your racing ability because it will allow you to run the bike harder.

a stock well-suspended bike will be faster compared to a well-modded bike with stock suspension, in regards to racing.

In this order (I left off nerfs & tether becuase they are required, period):

  • Air Intake (K&n, plate, reeds)
  • Pipes
  • High Compression Head (Nosshead, Coolhead, milled head)
  • Timing Plate ($30 off Ebay)
  • +4 axle
  • +2+1 a arms
  • Shocks
  • Porting
  • Carb upgrades
  • just keep on going....

Don't forget the safety gear that you should not be without:

  • Helmet
  • Chest Protector
  • Riding Boots
  • Goggles

Well, that's a good place to start anyway.

Also depends on what type of racing you are talking about doing. Setup for MX and for XC are a little different. Race it stock if you want to and as you get money see what is most beneficial for you to buy first.

Suspension is always the best start like everyone has said. Nerf bars and a kill switch are definitely a good idea and not very costly for the benefits they provide. Definitely go wider if you are MXing. Work on bringing your bottom end of to par also, a good setup with carbs port work and pipes can help alot. Good luck with racing!

The best advice I can give you young grasshopper is to check with your local racetrack. You want to be sure that you can even race a banshee at your age. Alot of places have restictions on age and size of machine. If you get all that straight.......then you should be off to a good start........everyone else's advice is right on.

Later
