zzzz
Went riding w/ a friend yesterday. My bike is stock 'cept for no snorkel and jetted up 2 sizes. He has t5's plus straight KN air cleaners. He said he was jetted at 280. We both have brand new rebuilds, .030 over. Also the same gearing, 12/41. Anyways, his bike would beat me thru gears 1-5, but mine would take off in 6th and leave him behind. Once he hit 6th his bike would bog. I thought if it was a jetting problem then all the gears would act the same. Any ideas?
sredish
not necessarily, the higher the gear your in, the harder your motor has to work to pull it, which will require more fuel and possibly result in a lean condition. Just because your mixture is right in 3rd gear doesn't mean it won't be lean in 6th. That's why when we tell people to run a WOT plug check, we suggest 6th gear, this will eliminate the chances of having a lean condition in a high gear. Chances are, he was lean in 6th and didn't have the fuel he needed to provide the power to pull the 6th gear. My 2 cents.
Banchetta
Red is right on...6th gear requires more fuel than 3rd or 4th....the more of a load, the more fuel it takes....Just like a car.....great fuel mileage at 60mph, but it goes downhill the faster you go....the wind resistance causes more of a load.... Banchetta
I jetted in my friends shee w/ T5's and couldn't believe it liked the 350 mains in CA.......Read the plugs, that'll tell all, we can only get you close, you still have to fine tune it yourself....
