sredish
what are your present mods and elevation. When does it backfire, full throttle, light throttle, not rpms but throttle position. If you putt putt around and it's fine then you slam it wode open throttle and it pops then or it's fine when your full throttle, but when you let off or back off the throttle a little it pops, that's what I'm looking for. you say it "runs way to rich with a light brown", where are you reading this color from. light brown in some instances can mean not rich enough depending on where your looking at. My first thoughts are that your lean, but we need to figure out in what area that your lean. the reason it does it more with the one with the holes is because your leaning the mixture even more and therefore it pops more. Get back.
Banchetta
Light brown doesn't mean that your rich. You want a dark brown color...Tan or white straps indicate that your way too lean...Light brown means your lean but close...Put the air box back on and take the lid off. Holes in the box will just throw sand and mud onto the filter....If you ride in mud a lot, then cut the last 1.5" off the end of the lid so you still have all 4 clips...this will give you plenty of air, now you'll want to go up at least 3-4 jet sizes from where you are now and run it wide open in 6th gear, shut it off, pull the clutch in, coast to a stop...pull the plugs and read them again.... tweeded89
it does it usually 3/4 to full throttlle elevation well maine whatever our elevation is here its been ported stroker crank .6 over it seems to do it more when its cold and also if u pull the chocke it doesnt seem to do so much and the bottom of the plug is light charcoal brown and it pops when im in the gas and it after 3rd it just pops and continues to pop at wot and will cut out
Banchetta
Make sure both plugs read the same or you have an air leak somewhere.....Jet it up, a popping sound is from a lean condition, wot indicates its your main jets...Go up 3-4 sizes and go from there. Elevation in Maine can vary from sea level at the ocean to over 5000' at Mount Washington....
