erbilabuc
ok so I won an expensive item off ebay, the guy said he would take paypal but now wants a western union money transfer(scam?). Thing is that he is not in France or any weird country like that. He is in New York! He has 0 feedback and is expecting me to just wire him the money but of course Im not going to do it. He gave me his phone # and I called but no answer(516 area code). MY thing is, he is real persistent. Asked to come pick it up and he boasts that the money transfer is easier and faster. Another thing that makes me think its a scam is that he told me he needs a surgery(implants?). So I would rather fly up there and spend 400$ on the flight to be sure about what I am getting then throw a lot more away by money transfer from someone that could be in another country. I want to know if by knowing their email adress, if you can find out were the person is? I know its far fetched but hey, I would rather get a bad reputation on EBay then get scammed. if anyone in NY would like to verify his adress for me their is some money in it for you, city is Westbury, 11590 thanks
cb67rs1
i would only do it if he took paypal, that way you could get your money back if it was a hoax, tell him you cant send anything western union cause you bounched a check or something with them one time and they will not allow you to send money through them anymore. that way he will leave you alone about sending it western union and maybe he will take paypal
boonman
I just checked Mapquest. I am on the other side of the state. It lists 7 hours drive time. Can't do that..... BUT, someone from NYC or even Connecticut may be able to hook you up..... HERE is a link to mapquest for Westbury.... It is on long island.... East of NYC... You may be able to type the guys name in a Google search and verify address that way.......
erbilabuc
ok cool, i have friends in NY city but he hasnt gotten back to me about being able to pick it up. I told him I was on a cruiser and we were porting at the harbor on sunday and I want to pick it up. Another thing that got me worried is that he told me to send the money and then that shipping was free. We are talking about 80$ minimum to ship about 9k$ worth of equipment. Seems fishy to me but only time will tell
Ducman
Don't even think of sending money Western Union. He may try to convence you to wire the money to him and keep the Transaction # a secret to yourself sort of like an escrow account and release it when you get the goods. Don't do it! As soon as the transaction clears, the money is out of your account and into Western Unions, he can get the money by just providing his ID to the Western Union and if the money was sent in his name he can get it W/O the ransaction #. The only thing the transaction # is for is so that the other person can claim the money immediatly and not wait untill it clears. I would say that it is a 90% chance that it is a scam, but the only way to make sure is to send the money paypal. You should be able to get the money back from paypal if it is a scam but it may be a hastle. I don't think I would do it without an escrow service. If he says now that he wont or cant accept paypal, leave bad feedback immediatly report him to e-bay and forget him, you'll be protecting other people from a potential scam and I doubt you'll get bad feedback. If you do you should be able to get it taken off if it is a scam or hyjacked account. Good luck!
PolyKarbon
bigfoot.com is a pretty good (and free) people finder. Try the white pages on yahoo, the cnn.com white pages. etc...etc...etc...
erbilabuc
im 50/50 on wether its a scam or not, but most likely it is. It isnt a too good to be true deal but its just its such a hassle getting the money to him. I am to the pint were if he says that he will let me pick it up then I will fly up there myself and pick it up. Oh well

nater006
Yup, do NOT Western Union him. If you're buying actual goods -- not something digital like an Everquest profile or whatever -- you can get your money back through PayPal. Western Union is used in so many scams its not even funny.
