I would like to know what y'all do it with..... How much you mow, and what make and model shit you use. I currently have a tractor, and I want to sell it to get a Z. Enlighten me oh masters of the landscapes........ Oh, I have about 3 acres of solid lawn at my house, and alot of trees. I want at least a 52" deck. I have been looking into a country clipper. Joystick control looks phat. I drove one and it was pimp. www.countryclipper.com Edited May 14, 2004 by boonman

Screamin_Banshee
Boon, are you looking for commercial grade, or home use type mowers? They are two different worlds, if I was in your shoes and could go to a full commercial grade. They are a bit more expensive, but built MUCH MUCH better. Not only are the parts stronger, they are designed to last a whole lot longer. Thats my opinion here.... As for which company I preffer, I would have to say Scag all they way. We currently three different makes/models on my trailers- Scag, Toro, and Gravley. All of my Z's are 48" cut, which works well in this buisness- not to big and not to small. I preffer the Scags over the Toro's any day of the week, even the Gravely's most of the time. The machine just feels much better built, more heavy duty. Both the Gravely's and the Scags decks are built of thicker material (if its rough land this helps), while the Toro feels like its built of sheet metal. Needless to say I am bending those back alot ! I havent heard of this other maker before. I will have to check into them some more to see what the commercial grades look like. Altho I have shopped most of the places within 100 miles of me. Remember when shopping for these, its like alot of other things- U get what u pay for. J Edited May 14, 2004 by Screamin_Banshee
PyRo_ZaCh
you happen to watch american chopper and see dixi chopers or whate ever they were, sposed to be the worlds fastest lawn mowers, i dident see the whole thing, but from what i understand they used a motor from one in a bike so the things must have some power
Cotton eyed Joe
I have .16 acres of mostly crab grass and dandelions. I use a Craftsman 6.5 hp mower with a dull blade and a clogged air filter to mow it 3-4 times per year.

I too am in the market for a new mower due to having my riding mower take a crap on me. It was taking hours to get the yard cut (.58 acre) because I kept having to work on the damn mower. I finally had enough of it and looking into a john deere from Home depot or a snapper. I'm not sure what to go with. I don't want to spend thousands of dollars because I don't have that big of a yard at this point in time. Anyone have any comments on the two I listed. I don't mean to jack your thread boonman, just thought I would add to the topic. Craig
BrokeStonedBiker
wait till late fall to go shoping to for the lawn mowers. just let your grass go this year if need be. you could save about 300$ and get a nice trackter. i have a snapper trackter. its about 5 or 6 years old and it is missing a lot of teeth on the stating gear. does anyone kow how to replace these things? i tried to take the maine motor flywheel thing off,(i think thats what it is) like a flywheel stater thing. but you cant hold the engine from turing over. i think i need somethn like the special flywheel remover for the bashee, type of thing. anyone ever done somethin like this? i know jack about lawn mowers. put gas is and run it is all i know. took the air filter off a few weeks ago, caked in dirt and dust, just threw it back on there and said hey, hsnt given me ne toubles yet. though its not my mower so that might explain my actions. CP5899
I had an old snapper once and the teeth would always brake on the starter. They sell the gear for the starter at the local snapper shops around here. I had to replace it once before and the way the guy talked about it, it sounded like it was a common problem. locogato11283
ive got a Scag 61 inch cut deck with a 27 hp Kawasaki engine. its a cuttin motherfucker. ive had it almost 3 years, put over 400 hours on it and have yet to do anything besides change the oil 2 times. i love it. only thing is that its kinda rough riding even with the ergo seat i got for it. when i bought it i think i paid around 8000. they are even higher now i believe. i wouldnt bother with a hopper or anything like that. go straight for a commercial grade mower that will stand up to the abuse. i recommend Scag to anyone. boonman
I am looking commercial grade. I got a Country Clipper Zeton 60" deck. Click HERE to peeeps this bad boy out. I have run Scags. Nice machine. This clipper runs like a scag. Fuckin "a" sweet!!! Even with a joystick control, you can counter-rotate like a mofo. Fuckin wicked mochine. I am gonna sell my Sabre 2354 (23 horse Kohler, 52" deck) and trade in the Snowmobile. If you have never seen one of these clippers, they are tough. Friggin 3/16" plate on the anti-scalp rollers. Deck is reinforced like a mofo. like none other I've seen. Unexplainable. Flip up deck as well. 2 pins on the back, lift the front of the mower, and it stands up for easy blade removal, cleaning, etc........ My tractor is a PITA to get out, and even more ridiculous to scraper or remove blades.... This one I'm lookin at is trick!!!
locogato11283
im not so sure about those joystick controllers. i think i need the two bars in front of me. i would feel naked without them. it looks pretty nice. so you went ahead and bought it? when i bought ym scag the dealership let me take one home the weekend before to try it out. that made my decision for me. will they let you try this one out first?? boonman
I didn't buy it. (yet) I may do so though.... I wil have to see if i can snag one for a day or two.... I was a fan of twin stick, untill I fired up the joystick..... Words cannot explain the functionality of it.
