Rear Elka, Think I Just F'ed Up.

Recommended Posts

I needed to move the remote hose due to it rubbing on another hose and it was beginning to wear. There was no where to move it so I decided, like a dumbass, to slightly loosen the connection into the reservoir so I could rotate the hose around on the reservoir just a little to gain a different mounting angle. Well, I did loosen it a little, but in the process, I freaking let some fluid out. Not a lot, but some. How bad did this screw up the pressure inside and how bad is it gonna mess up my settings that I had set perfectly. I'll call Elka tomorrow, but i'm leaving early and won't be able to call them until I'm on the road. I did get the hosed moved, so that's good, but I'm afraid I'm gonna have to remove the shock to add oil, or add something back. I should've lifted the rear grab bar to relieve all the pressure on the shock, but I didn't cause I'm a dumbass.

What do you all think that's gonna cause?

Later.

I think you should be alright. The rezzy holds extra fluid and what not.... Depending on how much you let out of course..... We talking minimal, or holy shit, I just fucked up bad?

nah, enough to get the top of the rezzie wet but not too much, as soon as that shit came out I crammed that nut back so fast, to hell with where the cable ended up. It actually ended up perfect, but total f'ing luck.

I totally knew better, but it was one of those logic out the window things. I was fretting over the hose rubbing a hole through.

yea i'd like to hear to, but ive heard that if you let allitle out its allrgiht, but when a bunch of that shit goes, there goes the shock so you hve to send it back in

Eric @ Elka told me as long as I didn't lose more than 2 teaspoons of the oil then it should be fine and operate no different. I think I lost between 1 and 2 teaspoons worth. He also said that I need to find a local shop that can recharge the nitrogen back up to exactly 150 psi.

So, appears to be no big prob.

yeah thats what i thought....you can play with the oil level, but the nitrogen charge needs to be a certain psi regardless of the oil level, cool so your back in action.....i would look for someone local that can service them every so often, i pay my guy 75 bucks and he will replace the oil and charge all 3 of my elkas for me, i dont know if thats a good price or not but his shop is 5 minutes from my house so it works out well
