Hockey390
Hey all, someone told me the way you test for a spark arrestor is but pushing something down the silencer, if it stops you got em, if it doesnt you dont.. So what I'm thinking, is instead of buying new silencers... Could I take mine apart, and put like a wire screen inside it? Like even if its not a real one, wouldnt that serve the same purpose, and also get me by?? ***This post is not to be read by any DNR officials***
Blacksmith
All a spark arrestor is, is a small fine screen in the outlet port of the pipe. I see no reason at all you couldn't make your own, and like you say, it will sure pass the test to see if it has been removed. However, keep in mind that many DNR officials know which setups came with arrestors and for which ones it was an option. If you don't fall into that group I doubt you will get by with it. Good Luck. SDD
Approved spark arrestors are stamped with an approval number.
nater006
Yep... it'll say its US Forest Service approved. Last time to SL they didn't even do the flexi-rod thing in mine on the R... they just looked at the silencer and saw the print and were like "cool"
Hockey390
Well hmmmmmmmm, all I know is that I want to go, and I have power core II's, do you think if I installed them I could just say that I took them to a shop and they put some on the inside? I WANT TO GET BY THEM!!!!
erbilabuc
make a small plate, go to machine shop and get them to stamp the approved stuff on it.
SDD
You can modify your silencer like I did... click link http://www.bansheehq.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=28154
boonman
One year, we spent the better part of 5 hours in the parking lot of Home Depot in Michigan making spark arrestors. Upon trying to enter Silver lake, the DNR pulled us even after they rodded the silencers. (3 bikes). I lyed my ass off, and still didn't get in. It will ruin your weekend if you don't have a spark arestor and you try to get in and they don't let you. Pony up and buy some forest service approved spark arrestor....... And make sure you re-pack your silencers. They check sound too.....
rebelbanshee2
i guess you could try to get the plate that rivets onto the side for a turbinecore 2 silencer and put that on the side along with a screen inside. I never got why you need a spark arrestor in the dudes..is sand really that flamable?
Minkia38
no - there is nothing flamable at silver lake, sand and water do not burn very easily
boonman
there is nothing flamable at silver lake Except the trees, spilled fuel in the parking lot, and other things around....
pimp559
SDD are those tubes coming out of your pcII's going in the hush welded on?
SDD
Pimp no they are not. Everything is bolted together. Other than making the end caps there really isn't much involved with this mod. You do have to cut the preferated tube core in the silencer about an inch shorter though.
