Meat
Took off my banshees cylinders today, going to put a fresh top end in before the coalfestage happens. me and rustyrider04 took it all apart today, I have the juggs sitting here along side me. They're in really good shape, its ashame to rebuild it, but its all apart now so no turning back. I got stuck out riding in a thunderstorm yesterday and had a really rough day riding, my ground wire broke and it was killing the engine all day long. Now I cant the bastard to spark. Long story, but im looking to buy a wiring harness with a matching cdi box, so if anyone has one for sale, pm me with a price.
boonman
Just a friendly tip Denny. Build your own harness. I cut mine all apart. You don't use half the crap that's on it. You need a few wires for lights, kill switch, coil and CDI. It's not much....... You can do it. It would be cheap, and you would eliminate alot of problems!!!! Nighty
Sounds like fun boonman I build my own wiring harness to make my banshee street legal. worked good! Only next time i need some thicker wireing. Hey whats that MPH in your sig? banshee top speed? Oh and where can you get all the connectors for the stock wireing harness? BenBB
Dammit Meat your timing sucks. I'll have an almost complete Banshee electrical system with a Dyna CDI and Ricky Stator stock output stator for ya in a couple months, but I gotta get the RZ together and running first (I'm keeping the coil but will likely fab a new harness, so everything but the coil). I'm shooting for July to teardown & reassemble, and August to breakin and work out the bugs. BTW if your ground wire broke in one spot it may not be the only place, hope you find the problem relatively painlessly. Have fun with the topend job, shee will thank you for it... Meat
boonman the harness that im using now, is completly homemade. It worked fine all season last year, Im just having problems with some of the connectors I used. Im keeping this harness and im going to solder all my connections where I used butt connectors. I think I have a bad connection where my tether switch ties into the harness. And concernin' the top end. Im putting it back together and im not having it rebuilt. The stuff's in great shape and there're nothing wrong with it, so im going to put everything back together and run it. Hell I had 160\165 PSI in the cylinders. I would cost me around $300 bucks to rebuild it, so why rebuild it when its in near perfect shape. Im glad I took the cylinders off, now I have peice of mind that the pistons are in good condition. I can still see crosshatching on 80% of the sleeves. There is NO carbon buildup in the exhaust tunnels, they're spotless. Im not going to waste a bore size and a good set of pistons for no good reason, so its going back together as soon as I get some base gaskets. Does anyone think I should have the juggs re-honed and put some new rings on the pistons ?? good idea or bad idea ? CP5899
Your compression sounds good and if you can see the cross hatches in 80% of the sleeve then I wouldn't worry about it to much. You will take a couple thousands out when honing it which will just give you more piston to wall clearance and make the piston sit looser in the bore so if it looks good I would run it. bradrs
Oh and where can you get all the connectors for the stock wireing harness? In the US, K&L supply sells some of the stock connectors. But they don't sell direct, you would have to go to their website, and find their nearest dealer. http://www.klsupply.com/sales/ Meat, if you are going to go back through and solder all the connections, you might also want to take the time to track down some adhesive lined heat shrink tubing to put over the solder joints. Radio Shack may have this, or you can get it online through Digikey or Waytek Wire. It does a good job of reinforcing the solder joint, keeping things from shorting out, etc. Brad

Craig me and buddy at work had the same thoughts\discussion so it looks like I wont be honing. good to see you around again. bradrs, I just got done with the wiring harness, I replaced 3 butt connectors with solder and I covered ALL my connections with heat shrink. It looks good. There's actually not much to my harness, its only a few wires, but I took the harness off the frame and went over it with a fine tooth comb and that harness is bulletproof now. I found a bare wire near the connector coming off the stator, I fixed it up with some liquid elec tape(neat stuff) and then wrapped it with elec tape and put some loomage over the whole works. reas i just put in 6 hours of work on my banshee, I just got home and its 5am. I'll have it ready and running for June. No doubt. Im waiting on a base gasket right now, once I get the gasket, i'll have the top end re-assembled and then I can concetrate on the wiring problems. But I think I have got the wiring troubles hashed out. My bet is, she'll start right up and run fine. im tired, goin' to bed......
boonman
Meat, I have a base gasket. I think I have a couple actually. I was gonna help someone else out before, but I couldn't find them... I found one, and I think I kno where the other one may be.... Oh, wait a minute, you have a big bore..... Nevermind.....
fixitrod
Craig me and buddy at work had the same thoughts\discussion so it looks like I wont be honing. How will the rings seat properly if you don't hone it?

NYUK
i got an 87 harness and cdi.you need the old type? pm me if you do.
Meat
Its 5am, i just got home from working on the quad all night. Been out there since midnight Im pretty tired. good news is, I got the whole top end, intake and half the exhaust system put back together. Bad news is, I still dont have any spark. Nyuk Im running an '88's stator, do you think your '87 harness will match the plug on my '88. It would be nice to just plug it in, but if I have to splice it, its no big deal. Im 97.84% sure that my harness is fine. I kinda doubt my coil died. That leaves my CDI as the problem peice. Can a CDI get fried from soldering wires on the harness without uplugging the CDI ??
