Exhaust

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I am repacking my silencers on my 01 Banshee, which I have had for a month.

They are DG pipes, which were put on by the previous owner.

When I opened the silencers, I see the core (perforated) that runs in the silencer

is not in very good condition. On one pipe the core is actually broken and has been sort of held together by the silencer packing material.

Do i need to get new cores, or can I clean up the existing ones, and make sure they are straight and no holes are blocked up, repack them and rebuild the silencer?

Must the core join tightly onto the pipe coming into the silencer and then also tightly into the pipe leading out the back of the silencer?

Thanx for any help

Bruce

yea it should be pretty tight in the front and the back, u could try to rebuild it if u hve some welding skills, then repack it, i dont think blockin a few on the holes in the mesh is gonna hurt performance, good luck

"Hey, I took off my silencer caps this weekend (tail pipe), and didnt see any packing material. I did see some sort of device about 6" down the tube. Am I supposed to remove that? Is that where I repack my silencers?"

Hey Dogboytoy,

Yeah, there should be packing material around the mesh core, that joins the pipe to the end core, in the aluminium silencer end. You can buy new material at any bike shop

Cheers,

Yes, it puls easy. Just slides out the pipes.

When I put it back in, I put a thin pipe in the mesh core, and used this to line up the mesh core with the exhaust pipes. Pulled the thin pipe out when I was finished. Also sealed where the joins are with high heat silicone.

Putting the pipes back on this weekend, so will see how much diff it has made. The old packing was really messed, so am hoping it will be much better
