sredish
I had this shit up before. I had my broadband coming into the "office" computer and my laptop networked to it and using the connection. Well, yesterday, I purchased a new Wireless G router / AP and new card for the laptop. I installed and plugged everthing in. Hooked it up and set everything up the way I figured it should be. My internet is working great on both. I can't freaking share files, nor can I find the printer that is connected to the "office" computer. WTF. It worked fine before, all I did was change to the router and re run the network setup wizard to allow for the changed connections. (The office was wireless before, now it's ethernet to the router.) When I try to connect, it says "XXX is not accessible. You may not have permission to access this network resource". Well, I sure as hell had it yesterday. I've checked all the folder permissions, and everything's hunky dory. I disabled the firewall on the router and the Internet Security software, sill no go. I'm at my wit's end. If you guys can't help me, I'm calling in the big dogs, and opening my wallet to them. Also, my wireless network (WLAN ) on the laptop will connect, then disconnect, then connect, then disconnect. WTF is up with that? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. You guys helped me huge when I had to build my own site, now that's up, surely someone can chime in on this. EDIT: Oh yeah, I've tried pinging the IPs and it timed out. Later. Edited May 3, 2004 by sredish
banshee370
Give us a lil more info.. what OS's are you running? Is the office pc wired/cabled or wireless? What brand 802.11G router did you get? What brand PCMCIA wireless nic for the laptop? Is this a P2P or a client/server based network? Is your net connection DSL? Cable? T1? Ect? Is your broadband connection going into the router now or still into the "Office" pc and running a shared connection from it? Again give a lil more info or I can msg you my # and we can try this over the phone.
sredish
what OS's are you running? Office & Laptop - Win XP Pro Is the office pc wired/cabled or wireless? Office pc is wired via ethernet to the router, laptop is the pmcia card What brand 802.11G router did you get? What brand PCMCIA wireless nic for the laptop? Both are new models from Linksys. Is this a P2P or a client/server based network? Uuuuh... my old network was a P2P, but I'm unsure if the router changes that or not. Dude, I'm network unfriendly. Is your net connection DSL? Cable? T1? Ect? Is your broadband connection going into the router now or still into the "Office" pc and running a shared connection from it? The connection is satellite, Direcway to be exact (I'm in the boonies). The connection is going into the router and out via cable to the Office pc and wireless to the laptop. Hope this helps. Any more info, let me know, I'll sure be glad to do it. Edited May 3, 2004 by sredish
sredish
I've got the router setup for "Auto Configuration DHCP", whatever the hell that means. I have the MAC filter on, along with the WEP keys and the Firewall is on, if that makes a difference. No VPN.

Mine was a problem with the firewall, and also the "file" dropdown menu had "work offline" checked. And it was doing the sign on, sign off, sign on, sign off thing and going plain nuts!!! B370 is the shiz, and you and him will get it I ma confident!!!!
XTShee
I had the same problem on my network at home, turned out it was the firewall on the windows xp machine, once I turned it off it worked sweet

sredish
well well well. Da' man get's da hookup. As stated, an hour was spent, then another half after I had dinner. We had turned off all the security we could in regards to the routers and winxp stuff, the firewalls on there. After all that. Find out there is one thing I forgot to tell him about, my stupid personal firewall software. There was no way to know I had this, hell I forgot. If I would have told him about my Internet Security to begin with, I'd have saved his time on the phone with me. He did know all the places to go and verify it was hooked up correctly. B370 did hook me up. Thanks a lot man for the time you spent helping me when you coulda been somewheres else. I've got the IPs on each of Norton's firewalls now and have already downloaded the Win XP updates from windows (damn satellite's quicker with the new modem) the printer is now shared and tested and she's all up and running. Thanks again, seriously for all the time you put in, and if I can ever do something for you, without a doubt don't hesitate. I'll try to figure out a way to pay you back in the meantime. Now back to disabling some services. just kidding. Damn, I need a smoke.
sredish
A new number for the bathrooms walls "For a good time call : 1-800-TEX-BARN" Seriously, that'd be great. My wife answers the phone almost always. I think we need about 50 people to call throughout the day asking for adult services. Boy, she'd get pissed. banshee370
Your very welcome.... And there is no need to feel the need to "pay me back" As for the firewall.... we both went over it a few times, but I guess it didnt register until later Damm Norton AV..... hehe PS: make sure you enable your wireless security again!
