Where To Buy A Tachometer For The Shee

Recommended Posts

I called autometer and they said that they do not make one. All I can find online is digital ones. Does anyone know where I can buy a dial type tach? I have seen them here at silver lake, but always forget to ask where they got them.

Someone correct me if im wrong, but a two stroke motor has 2 pulses per stroke. It goes by the pulses per stroke of the crank. Which is why a 4-stroke motor tach will not work. Pulses are determined by how many cylinders are in that stroke. There are many more pulses per stroke on a 4-stroke motor, making a standard tack read off the charts when at half throttle, that is when I hooked it up to the shee.

Well, the Banshee has a spark fire every 180 degrees, like you said, and since there is only one coil to pick up on, it sees it as complete rotations. And, on a 4 stroke, it fires once every 720 degrees. So what your tach was thinking it was seeing was something like 4x the actual rpm. See if you can find a 40,000 rpm tach  .

ok let me tell you guys something first off lets look at your banshee ignition

engine is 2 cylinder 2 stroke with a single coil. so therefore to fire at tdc on compression for every cylinder it must pulse the coil every 180deg.

lets look at 4 cylinder 4 stroke with single coil.

in 2 crankshaft revolutions all 4 cylinders go through a cycle. thats 4 cycles for 720deg so that = 1 pulse every 180 deg.

exactly the same as your banshee.

the problem lies in the cdi. cdi pulses positive to the coil where general automotive ignition systems pulse the earth.

if you want a tach then i suggest using rz cases with the internal tacho drive, cable and rz tacho.

I HAVE A DIGATRON AVENGER THREE ON A BANSHEE AND A 2000 MACH Z RESPONCE IS VARY FAST. TACH INPUT IS PICKED UP OFF ANY LIGHTING SOURCE. ALSO YOU CAN MONITOR EGT'S, WATER TEMP, AND RPM ALL WITH ONE

UNIT. I LOVE IT, CONSIDERING ALWAYS JETTING FOR SEASON CHANGES WINTER/SUMMER.

JUST MY 2 CENTS!!!!!!!!!!!! :)
