strokedpony
I am looking into putting my old yz 465 engine and tranny into my Big Wheel 350. Looking for some or any info that anybody might have for these types of things. I am thinking with a good paddle tire it will be a killer dune machine when completed. Might have to figure out how to improve the suspension aslo. Also where might I find parts for that old of a bike (the yz 465 1980-1982 i think). I have been looking on ebay for some rebuild kits and haven't found any in quite a while. Thanks all
jinx44
What parts do you need. I have a 465 that I am looking to get rid of. It has a recently rebuilt motor, never started.
ledofthezep
Sounds like suicide to me. Interesting though,...get some pics when you're done.
locogato11283
i put a cr500 in my banshee frame. it just takes time and a lot of patience. be prepared to spend some money also. your biggest problem will be making the sprockets line up. the pipe and silencer situation is a pain too. lemme know if you need any ideas. strokedpony
Jinx44 where are you located. I am in Kennewick, Washington. I shouldn't need many parts, (got the whole 465 bike) but was going to do a rebuild. Haven't looked at it since it quit running. I figured I would get it back to working as is and then start with the conversion. I know what your saying locogato11283 especially with the big wheel having the double chain and the front one is very short not much room to work with. I will take some before and after/during pics and probably a lot of posts before I am done. We'll just have to see what kind of monster I will be able to create. Should be a freaking riot though. rx7500hpt2
Stay away from the yz465. It will vibrate way to much and probably blow head gaskets left and right.
jinx44
It doesn't vibrate any worse than any other big 2 stroke
rx7500hpt2
The 465 vibrates more than a cr500. The cr500 is a more modern better balanced motor but it still vibrates alot, a 465 vibrates like crazy. Ive put a 465 in a quad frame. The frame started to crack in numerous spots, your hands and feet would go numb quick, it was worse the higher you reved it. A 465 is not that bad as a bike, but from experience I would not try to put the motor in anything else.
sandblaster360
good luck with that man. if you do it right it wont vibrate to much. I'm puttin a kawi 350cc dirt bike engine thats been bored to a 360cc in a blaster frame. ( the pipe is a pane though)
locogato11283
I'm puttin a kawi 350cc dirt bike engine thats been bored to a 360cc in a blaster frame. ( the pipe is a pane though) when you build the pipe use the stock one for rough cutting then buy an aftermarket pipe and start pieceing it together. thats what i had to do on my cr500 banshee. turns out that a pro circuit pipe almost fit, i just added a inch strip after cutting and turning the pipe 90 degrees. take your time and you will never even know it didnt come that way. mine looks stock. strokedpony
I never noticed any excessive vibration while riding the 465 except for the ground break loose from under me. I have a feeling that anything I put in the Big wheel will increase vibration but I have got to get rid of that weak ass 4 stroke 350. I swear I have rode a PW 80 (fat man on a little bike, )and it had as much power as the BW 350. And hy even if it does vibrate bad enough to put my ass to sleep I always have my BANSHEE to wake it back up.
