phreak
sounds like the ground was loose. i had the same exact problem with my old system. played fine until i cranked it up. it would cut in and out. make sure you have a clean ground point and tighten that bitch down. stealthawd
Yellow Top Optima...GREAT battery for running a system off of. Plus, can be mounted inside cuz it doesn't give off fumes.
banshee04le
I have a yellow top and a red top under the hood of my truck. I can crank the stereo with the truck not running for a good long time and if I do kill that yellow top, my red top is fresh to crank up the engine and then my 225amp wrangler alternator charges them both back up through 4/0 cable. You need a battery isolator, which is basically just a high current relay, to run the system off of one battery when the engine is not running, yet charge and run off of 2 batterys when the engine is running
Otis
banshee04le- Where did you pick up your high out put alt? Was it a direct bolt on/plug in, or did you have to do some mods to get 'er to work? If you have any pics of that set up(batteries and alt) could you email me a few r1otis@yahoo.com I'm going to be doing a tune up, and plenum gasket([censored]ing Dodge engineering) replacement this weekend, so i figure as long as the old alternator has to come off, might as well replace it with a new(HO) one. if anyone happens to be in the area this weekend, and wants to help out, i'd be more then happy to supply the beer/pizza!!!..... Hockey390
High output alts will need you to modify your power running into them.. If you dont know what your doing i suggest taking it to a shop. However, how many watts are you running? I dont believe that was ever mentioned...
Otis
I have a 120 now...but was thinking of going to 136(i think thats what it was) out of a 3/4 ton truck. I went to a dodge messege board and was told that for what i have (stereo, extra lights.....) that my alt should be fine...It's when you start going "overboard" ( 40 amps, 30 subs, off-road lights as big as big as the sun, and winches that'll pull a house from its foundation.... ) that you'll need to upgrade the alt. Since i pulled the deck out and blew out the connections, i've had no problems...

stealthawd
hey...do a search, there is a dude selling two yellow top optima batteries for 200.00, great price for both batteries. if you are running lights and all too, just one of those would push that stuff no problem. Hockey390
I was talking about wattage on your amps pushing the subs..
Otis
I was talking about wattage on your amps pushing the subs.. ohhhhhh, my bad..... ..i think it's a 125, but not real sure. It's an old MTX 750 something.... I thought about the Optimas, but am better off just stickin w/ the auto zone ones that i have...the way the desert heat kills a battery, they dont last long out here, and free replacement is still free replacement
Hockey390
as far as car audio is concerned, you dont need any extra batteries or alternator upgrades.. Nor do you need a cap. It would just be wasted money. However, if you have other things like lights or whatever else you have on your vehicle, you might need it for that.. But like I said, as far as car audio and the amp, your problem was simply a bad ground connection, no need for more power..
Otis
But like I said, as far as car audio and the amp, your problem was simply a bad ground connection, no need for more power.. Yeah , which is fine by me(no money spent)....cause i have a lotta other things i need(see aslo WANT) to do to the truck and little money to do it w/.... stealthawd
i wasnt saying run two batteries, one yellow top would be plenty. also, the desert heat won't kill it...the optima batteries are made for the harsh stuff...heat, cold, vibration...blah blah blah
