oldturtle
Thought for the day for anyone inclined to believe TV news. Came across this on other forum; This is a letter from Ray Reynolds, a medic in the Iowa Army National Guard, serving in Iraq: As I head off to Baghdad for the final weeks of my stay in Iraq, I wanted to say thanks to all of you who did not believe the media. They have done a very poor job of covering everything that has happened. I am sorry that I have not been able to visit all of you during my two week leave back home. And just so you can rest at night knowing something is happening in Iraq that is noteworthy, I thought I would pass this on to you. This is the list of things that has happened in Iraq recently: (Please share it with your friends and compare it to the version that your paper is producing.) * Over 400,000 kids have up-to-date immunizations. * School attendance is up 80% from levels before the war. * Over 1,500 schools have been renovated and rid of the weapons stored there so education can occur. * The port of Uhm Qasar was renovated so grain can be off-loaded from ships faster. * The country had its first 2 billion barrel export of oil in August. * Over 4.5 million people have clean drinking water for the first time ever in Iraq. * The country now receives 2 times the electrical power it did before the war. * 100% of the hospitals are open and fully staffed, compared to 35% before the war. * Elections are taking place in every major city, and city councils are in place. * Sewer and water lines are installed in every major city. * Over 60,000 police are patrolling the streets. * Over 100,000 Iraqi civil defense police are securing the country. * Over 80,000 Iraqi soldiers are patrolling the streets side by side with US soldiers. * Over 400,000 people have telephones for the first time ever * Students are taught field sanitation and hand washing techniques to prevent the spread of germs. * An interim constitution has been signed. * Girls are allowed to attend school. * Textbooks that don't mention Saddam are in the schools for the first time in 30 years. Don't believe for one second that these people do not want us there. I have met many, many people from Iraq that want us there, and in a bad way. They say they will never see the freedoms we talk about but they hope their children will. We are doing a good job in Iraq and I challenge anyone, anywhere to dispute me on these facts. So If you happen to run into John Kerry, be sure to give him my email address and send him to Denison, Iowa. This soldier will set him straight. If you are like me and very disgusted with how this period of rebuilding has been portrayed, email this to a friend and let them know there are good things happening. bansheefreak
all the media cares about is ratings and they seem to think if they keep bringing up bad things it will get ratings... they don't wanna say things are good there.... Brooke
well, and most of the big media is liberal. so what else would you expect?
Cotton eyed Joe
well, and most of the big media is liberal. so what else would you expect? AMEN BROOKE!!! I've often seen and heard on the news about "crowds" and "marches" and "protesters" and they show this "crowd" and talk about all of them "protesting" and you know what? Its like 30 people maybe........ How many live in the US? 300 mil or so??? ok, so the news caught 1/10000000 of the population laying down in a street in protest. Where are the others that agree??? They never bother. I don't know a single person (personally) that is against it. The popular radio show here is always trying its damnedest to come up with some "right winged" agenda but it always comes out as a half assed lame attempt. Then the people that believe it if its on the internet come out, and the local callers that agree with what ever it was this guy said, even though he really didn't say anything..... Frusterating. If I was seriously into politics I'd have climbed a bell tower by now with a .50 cal Beowulf. Brooke
Stan lemme tell ya, i am seriously into politics and this shit is killing me. im like, losing it here. the sad thing is, i dont think most people realize how liberal the media is. the news isnt supposed to be full of any political agendas, be it liberal or conservative. people look to the news for facts, and im afraid its dangerous for the media to pretend they have no agenda in their reporting. i mean, if you wanna have an agenda, or if you wanna lean a certain way, fine just let it be known that you have a biased opinion. when people come to me with questions about politics or any other info they dont know much about, if i am biased i always make sure to tell them that. "well, keep in mind, i am biased and i hate bleeding heart liberals, but as far as im concerned the 9/11 commission is a joke" lol
cdcoxwell
If you were watching CNN during the beginning of the war, your mouth would have hit the floor thinking we were losing the battle easily.
Justintoxicated
Well unfortunately not all the people over there feel this way, from letters classmates have read at my university from family members or friends over there; we hear that a number of american soldiers have taken their own lives because they do not believe in what they are fighting for, we have also heard things compleatly the opposite from this letter you have posted. Was this from someone you know? From the letters we have heard about in class, soldiers say the feelings about us being over there are not very positive, while some support them, more want us to leave. From what I hear they sometimes have to fire on civilians because they do not know wether they are in danger or not (because of the way the Iraqies (however that is spelled) are fighting and using horrible tactics to suprise your troops). The firing on civilians without being sure of the threat, is part of what has driven some of our soldiers to take their own lives... Maybe the letters in class we have briefly discussed are seeing another side of the story than the national gaurd. I do not know....But I don't understand what this guy ment about John Kerry, it sounds more like a made up letter to support Bush than to tell what is really going on over there. Brooke
news flash, most universities and colleges are very liberal, your professors have agendas too. that was one big shock to me when i was in college.

No shit! but these letters are NOT coming from the professors, they were coming from other students family members, and friends and they were simply sharing in class when the topic came up and we heard both sides of the discussion. of course the media will never be allowed to fully video tape everything that is going on, it caused too many problems durring Vietnam, which is an entirely DIFFERT story, but none the less, it is suprising that we even get to see what we do. DUNEDEMON
Good post, thanks oldturtle. And thanks to all the troops out there protecting our freedom, and bringing it to those who need it. GOD BLESS AMERICA! I say love this country or pack your shit, tuck a family member under each arm and go somewhere else.
BenBB
Dead on Dunedemon. There's always gonna be two sides of every story, and sometimes we will never know the whole truth. In this case I beleive the letter; one of my jobs is to look for Federal jobs for our company, over the last 6-8 months I've seen a TON of bids go out for "infastructure in Iraq" ranging from sanitation to public power. Ducman
news flash, most universities and colleges are very liberal, your professors have agendas too. that was one big shock to me when i was in college. Yeah I sure did realize the load I was being fed after I graduated. Thanks to the soldiers who fight for our country. Hopefully the Iraqis will unlearn the hate that they have been taught for so many years and learn to enjoy and respect their freedom. itsaripper
Brooke You hit the nail on the head, and I mean the hammer the nail and your whole fist went threw the wall. The media is so left. As for college it is the only place in the world that still believe and teach that communism is a great form of goverment. Between the two, you would get the idea that the US is always Bad, always wrong in everything, Imperialst, and just rapeing the world for more oil. I am getting to where I only belive the weather report, and its only half right.
