'99350t
what do you guys use to compress the spring (rear) while it is still in the chasis. it is on my bike and there is little room for a punch, and i got to get it spun (tighten) about an inch worth of threads. compressing the spring would be much easier. PLEASE HELP ME!
BdBanshee
While it is on the quad I use a spanner wrench.
banshee04le
A spanner wrench is better if you have one. If not, just raise the bike up to take the weight off of the swingarm and then use a big long screwdriver and a hammer to tap it. It's not very hard. I've compressed front springs before with a method I learned on the hq. You need a ratchet strap. You will probably need to cut off one or both of the hooks so that you can pass the strap through the spring coil as needed. Tie it to the coil and start ratcheting. Works nice. '99350t
well there is barley room for a punch so the spanner wrench is def. outta the question. the strap was going to break way before the spring would budge, any other idea's? DUNEDEMON
Remove the rear shock from the bike (it's easy) and use the spanner wrench, or if you are careful (and don't have a spanner) you can use a large pair of channel-locks. BenBB
Are you just tightening the preload? If so, I use the method banshee04le said with the hammer & punch: on the left side of the bike in the "V" of the frame & subframe there's enough room to get a large screwdriver and beat on the nuts to loosen the top and tighten the bottom (don't forget to retighten the top one). Hose the threads down with WD40 and the top of the spring where the top nut contacts it and you should be able to move it relatively easily, although it will take a while to even make one revolution. I hafta adjust the preload when I lower the rear end so I put a mark on the bottom nut and just make two turns. BTW I'll get a spanner one of these days, but it's at the bottom of a long list... '99350t
but if i remove the shock, then tighten i dont think i will be able to put it back in. it was tough enough with the nut backed off all the way. also, there is no room for channel locks. DUNEDEMON
but if i remove the shock, then tighten i dont think i will be able to put it back in. If you have the chassis of the bike supported, the rear swing arm will move (up and down) enough to allow you to remove and install the rear shock no matter where the pre-load adjusting nut is set. '99350t
i see you guys think this is on a banshee. its on my tecate, and the shock doesn't mount to the frame and swingarm, but rather there is a pivot kind of deal, which does not move enough for me to reinstall the shock, making it a bitch. wimpywade94
that didnt make any sense 350t, and of course we thought it was on a banshee, look at what site your on! i would say have a friend sit on your seat then find a way to keep the spring compressed while he is on it. i woulnt use zip ties, unless you used some monster ones, and alot of them later wade
