Not water skiing This months dirtwheels had two different pics of it being done on banshees in the back and Ive seen it before. BdBanshee Posted April 23, 2004 Report Share Posted April 23, 2004 (edited) A bunch of us did it a few years ago at Waynoka (Little Sahara), I didn't want to try it on my Banshee because of the clamp-ons. A friend loaned me his 400EX and I did it on that. I went down to the waters edge, and then turned and accelerated away from the water until I hit top speed in 4th gear. Turned around and headed towards the water in 4th wide open, arms stretched out with my butt as far back as I could. Skimmed right across it! After I did it all my friends had to try it too, it is a lot of fun but make sure you carry enough speed to get across the water or you'll go over the bars when the front end dips. Here is a pic. Cotton eyed Joe Posted April 23, 2004 Report Share Posted April 23, 2004 A buddy of mine did it once at the Egin Lakes camp ground at St. Anthonys before they made it against the law to touch the farm run off they call a lake there His ass end started to come around, and when he let off, he damn near rolled it. Also, when skimming water, drive through it slowly first to be sure there are no rocks in the path. Someone at the Egin lakes hit a rock one year on a YZ250 and totalled it. Not to mention if you get knocked out someone has to come and pull you out of the water. Remember, if its at the dunes, it will only be sand if its exposed to the wind. Stinco Posted April 24, 2004 Report Share Posted April 24, 2004 i did it on my banshee in about 1 foot of water, but i definately skimmed across the top of it, you'll know when you are hydroplaining, and touching ground.. its pretty fun, but definately hit the water full pin! BitchenBanshee Posted April 24, 2004 Report Share Posted April 24, 2004 Don't hit it full throttle!!!! I'm usually the guy everyone watches crossing huge water crossings. I've done sand lake (when it's full) several times and it usually runs about 60 yards across and about 12' deep in the middle.... It takes some exp. but you definatley do not want to be pinned. I usually run at about 4th gear and just enough rpm's so when I goose it at the front of the water, it will carry me across to the other side. What you don't want is pinned so you can't accelerate any more. When you stop accelerating, you sink... It's about 100x easier to do it on a 250R than a Shee. The weight difference on the R is huge when it comes to water... Ohh and LEAN BACK AND PULL UP!!! Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
