DUNEDEMON
I hate it when someone pulls up next to us at the dunes and unloads a portable generator. Then they run the damn thing all night. TOO LOUD!!!!Yeah, I'm tired of being that asshole. Tried camping world too, they just have shit for the "built in" models. When I baught my Wekend Warior I was not about to spend the extra $3500 for the generator, I bought my portable new for $950. The onan stuff wont fit my model (Generac) already tried. thanks though. Ahamay
just go to ur local home&garden shop (i work at a local ariens/gravely/toro ect) dealer, and work with generacs often. seem to be pretty nice generators. except for the one, that one of the mechanics lit on fire...twice...but we wont go there. anyway, just go and ask them if they have any used parts. we have about 30 junk motors that have thrown rods, siezed, and whatnot laying around, just incase someone needs a part like this case. ask if they have anything like that. welding 2 mufflers together probably wont cause any drastic change in performance or heat. these types of engines are pretty basic, and dont care about a whole lot, when compared to say, a banshee that can be very tempermental. u could always set it out in the dunes, get a really really long extension cord and set up camp 300ft from it
squish
I got an adapter from autozone and welded it to my 11hp generator muffler. I used clamps for everything else so when I move it around it doesnt get in the way. I just bought one of those mufflers at autozone and clamp it on. So its not the muffler thats loud now its the mechanical noise. Im thinking of making a box with insulation stapled to the inside and covering it up. I guess I would half to drill a bunch of 1 inch holes in it for cooling. Shit I dont know.
Cotton eyed Joe
What about using a Yoshimura or other slip on style that is for 4 strokes?? Those 4 strokes aren't exactly quiet, and to be honest they sort of sound like a giant fart. My uncle had a 4000 watt honda that you could talk over. I have no idea what it used to silence the exhaust though.
