Flushing Bottom End?

Recommended Posts

my friend go his cylinders done 20 over and eveyrhting top end wise is pretty much ready to go after we paint his cylinders. however during his shees meltdown it did manage to go into the bottom end(unsure of how long it lasted). when we took the top end out this was the first thing i checked, the bottom end. i took a mini mag and sure enough their was debris(piston) laying in the bottom end. im pretty sure that he should crack the cases and inspect the crank but he's not going to do it so what would you guys suggest to use to flush it out? kerosene the only thing i can think of at the moment.

well if he's not gonna split the cases (dumb idea) get carb cleaner and spew a ton of it down there, slosh it around, and dump it back out the top end, followed by water, or take off the oil plug

What oil plug are y'all talking about in the crankcase? The transmission and the crankcase are two completely different and seperated pieces of the entire engine... Now, for flushing the lower end, I HIGLY suggest that you split the cases. You won't get it all out. I ttried it the "easy way", (not splitting them) and I got burned. Lower rod bearing went after about 5 hours of riding. :shootself: Tel your buddy to do himself a favor, set aside a Saturday afternoon, get a lower end gasket set, and split them and clean uup the crank. Have it welded and trued while your at it.... Itherwise you might as well :shootself: because the lower end will go. banghead

You got no real choice, split the cases and clean the bearings. If you got any metal in them, they will fail on you. You know, you will pay more to have a stock crank rebuilt then to drop in a true'd and welded wiseco hotrod crank asy. That includes new connecting rods and seals.

MotulMonsta,

How much are those Wiseco cranks? Mine's gotta be welded here before very long.. before I separate it and get into a huge mess. If the Wiseco one is cheaper and seems to be better, I'll hit that route up..

I'm assuming that those are "welded" or otherwise constructed in a way that won't have it blow to pieces...

Flush it out w/ premix gas.....pull the motor out, fill the lower end w/ premix, swash it around, dump it out.. do this about 5 times or until it comes out clear...The first swash will be a gray color...After he sees that, he just might open up the lower end...... :whoa:

Get a flywheel puller for $10 bucks, you'll need one....A rubber strap wrench for like oil filters come in handy to stop the motor from turning...or if you have impact guns, that helps.....Other than that, its all common wrenches...

Hello,

When i redid my topend....

I cleaned out the bottom end too...

here is what i did...this may sound retarded but it worked for me...

i sprayed a shit load of carb cleaner in there....

Then i tore up pices of terrry cloth and stuffed them in to the lower end..and rotated the crank a round....and the terry cloth pulled all the loose dirt and git out..

then give it a final wash down with premix if you like....and you should be good....

*Disclaimer*....Syntaxx is not responsible for anybody blown or welded cranks..and or any subsequent damage as a result of anything that I have said...

:headbang:

i dont have a flywheel puller but we got soem at school so it will work out there. i wish i had an impact gun. :( it would make things easier for more than just this project. i know a guy that has one so maybe it will work out there as well.
