blk02banshee
How's your clutch?? slippage and wear could be a factor with your mods. clutch is like new. I've been working so many hours, I have'nt had a chance to look at it and figure out what's wrong, yet. When I get a chance, I'm gonna gheck my compression. It could be low, being that it does have some hours on it, and well over 100 gallons of fuel run through it. It still feels like it's got good compression in the kicker, but I'm gonna throw a guage on it. I have noticed lately it takes 3-4 kicks to start when cold, where it used to be 1-2. I know my jetting is rich, too, so that's definately part of the problem. Other than that, I think I need to try lower gearing. ....or maybe a stroker crank and porting
Nightrider
I run PC pipes with a vented airbox lid,V-force reeds, milled head and+4 timing. With only 4 1" vents and a foam filter,I need only 310 mains 3rd clip and 27.5 pilots 1 turn out @700 ft. The jetting is dead on.Pulls like a monster from the bottom to the top.Plug is textbook I was beating piped/open airbox Raptors by the hair on my chinny chin chin.We were all spanking the predators, and in a short field,a 400 ex can hang on for 3 gears, but 6th,thats terrible. Good tires and the right line is the key on a shee.I'll work a field before I race it,making sure I note where the best traction and surface is all over it.I have ruled riding pits on days with this technique. Your weight is a disadvantage,it can only be made up with more power(or a diet)the choice is yours. I'm not a fan of 2nd gear holeshots, very hard on clutch, tranny and crank. Instead,I'll get the tires to strike in first gear, short shift into second and pin the throttle, you'll still get a great holeshot.A second gear launch gives the ultimate holeshot but my holeshot does well enough for me. blk02banshee
Nightrider, I agree about the second gear starts and like you, I just use first to get the quad in motion, and go to second quick. I have pretty much the same mods as you, except for the advanced timing and milled head, which I don't think really affects jetting too much. I'm just 2 sizes up from where you're at on the mains, so that's where I'm gonna start. I jetted it for the extreme cold this winter and never had a chance to change it back. I was at 320 last summer, but I think I'm gonna try the 310s and see how that is. Unfortunately, I'm working long hours and have to drive back and forth to PA the next 2 weekends, and also have to find time to rip the transmission out of my truck, get it rebuilt, and put it back in, as well as replace the entire exaust system. I might not even get time to look at, let alone ride my banshee anytime soon .
