Sprockets

Recommended Posts

Finally got all my shit back together today, got it jetted right and got to do some riding in a T-SHIRT!! :headbang:

Anyway.... Right now I am running stock front sprocket, and riding it on the road, I go through the gears in about 5 or 6 seconds. I am going to the track tomorrow to test it out and see if I need to go up a tooth in the front, but from my riding today I am thinking I need to. My question is, does the entire stator cover have to come off just to get to the sprocket?? I looked at the cover and as far as I can see its all one piece but hopefully I'm wrong......

Yep. The stock plastic cover has to totally come off. I cut the section around the sprocket off and it would still seal around the stator and no removing crap to get to the sprocket. My wife saw it and didn't like, so reason enough to buy a 3 piece polished aluminum cover with removeable section to get to the sprocket. Bling Bling! :)

Damn your wife noticed that. I could change the color of my plastics to pink and my girlfriend woudn't notice.(no interest) :jesterlaugh:

yeah, i've had my pipes on for over a year and she just realized they aren't black anymore. :D Actually, she bumped into the stockers in the shop and I guess it hit her.

Yes it's kind of a pain; to get to the sprocket you hafta loosen the left footpeg (and nerf bar if you have it), remove the shift lever, and remove the stator cover. I removed 3 of the little "fins" on the stator cover when I had it off so I could get a socket on the front sprocket and change it without going through the rest of that crap every time.

when i got this new banshee thats the first thing i did. i cut everything out that wasnt neccessary. now i can easily change my sprocket :D i think yamaha could do a little better job in their side case removal procedures. i think they could have made it a little easier to get off.

After riding mx today I think I will leave the sprocket alone. But I noticed when I was leaving my left peg is starting to bend and I cant tell if the right is or not. These are -2 pegs and they are powdercoated. I dont see how they could bend but my stockers didnt. Has anybody else had this happen? I think I'm going to find a strong piece of steel, drill a hole in it, wedge it in between the footpeg and the frame, and put a big bolt through the hole in the peg and through that, and hopefully that will make it stronger and less prone to bending more.
