Carb Upgrades

I have a 1995 Banshee, it has a Noss Head with 19cc domes, FMF SST pipes, a K&N filter set up and I just got a Dyna Ignition. Its not ported. Is it worth upgrading to larger carbs or should I just save my money.

 

If did get carbs...what ones should I get....I plan on getting it ported this winter but have run out of bolt on performance upgrades for now.

Before making up you mind on the single carb idea, talk to a few people who actually use or have used them. I have one on mine, and it was probably the second best mod I have done, with porting being the best. In my experience, it really helps the throttle response, as well as low to bid power. The top end seems just slightly improved over the stock carbs, as well. If you are looking for a light switch type of power which works well for racing, then you will want to stick to bigger than stock duel carbs, but for duning, I feel that the single is a great addition. I would just say that if you do get a single set up, get the set up for the ported motor (35 pwk instead of 33), since it sounds like you will be geting it ported soon anyways.

 

As an added bonus, the single set up can be rejetted much faster than the duels.

I have been thinking of swithching to a single carb setup. easy to rejet, always perfect sincronization. both cylinders will always run the same. The only thing Im worried about is loosing topend. I dont want to get beet by a ported banshee with stock carbs and Im all about top end speed. But Im sic of trying to get perfect sinctonization.

I disagree with this statement, especially when considering the 35mm carb. It runs well off of a port job. I wouldn't necessarily recommend running the biggest of all port jobs, but a good mx port and a hair more would easily be handled by the mighty 35mm, in fact I think it would be a great setup. You'll gain top end over the stockers with the single carb, you might not have quite as much as a pair of dual 30s, but you'll have loads more midrange power where the duals have zero.

But remeber with a single carb setup..it'll be an expensive project and depending what one you get, you might need a new airbox setup. With the mods you got, I'd drop a set of 28's Kehnin pwk's and wait on porting when you blow your motor up or get a top end rebuild. Because when you do, you can port the motor to work best with your mods..what I did I had a set of 28 pwks years before I got portwork and had the motor ported to work with my T-5's and 28's My Banshee is a fucking screamer. Carb sync is pretty simple. It takes some time to get it right..but I've been doing it so long, I can eyeball it right on the money. Oh if you get Kehnin pwk's you'll need reed spacers in order for the float bowl drain to clear the clutch arm and when you get the spacers you'll have to trim up the air boots to fit and modify the airbox front mount post to make it easier to get off.
