nickxc
I have heard that the early edition banshees where faster stock than the new ones87-89 has anyone else ever heard this??
reas11
i believe the this is true because they are geared diffrently, also the older banshees had j-arms causing the bike to be lighter.. those are the only diffrences i know of . BrokeStonedBiker
there 10 lbs lighter maybe geard different it dont matter 1 cent because you find a stock 87 with less than 10 hrs on it, ill show you a chicken with teeth.

99LRDblaster
i have no experience with this but i believe that all the shees are the same speed except for the 96 model year becasue they supposively had much cleaner casting done until the CPSC stepped in. thats just what ive heard though. MULLET~BOY
i think older shees came with a 15 tooth front sprocket wich would make a diffrence

Aussie Quad Racer
he means you will never find a complete stock 87 model to compare to a new model, All the old ones have had countless hours and rebuilds done to them so it really doesnt matter
roosthrower
old shees (87-89) have 13/41 gearing new shees (90-04) have 14/41 gearing I don't think that the j-arms are really ten pounds lighter. When I put some stock a-arms on my j-armed shee the j-arms felt like they were only a couple pounds lighter.
89 bansheedude
new shees (14/42) i believe, i dont thinks it is 14/41. and me having an 87 shee and just doing a j-a conversion, id say there more like 15 to 20lbs lighter. because you have to ad the a-arm and the new frame peices to mount the arm on. jayare Edited April 12, 2004 by 89 bansheedude
97blkbanshee
They also had bigger rear tires (22's) Thats why they were geared differently.
BrokeStonedBiker
reas, asussie said exactly what i was goig to say. and roostthrower, it says the 91-and on, models are 9 pounds lighted than the 87. not to get excided about show me a stock 87 with low hours and ill show ya a chicken with teeth, lol
FORMULASPEED
I have an 87 aside from the j arms there is less gussets around the subframe, frame connection area. My 90 has them though, and where new shees mount the foot guards I dont have these mounts on either 2. The rear sprocket hub has four arms instead of six. the front brake calipers are larger. The spindals are different for caliper mounting. There is no brake switch at the pedal. The electrical harness is different plug and wire wise, and this rev limiter I hear about dont exist, I dont think. Well Its never cut out on me in any gear, maybe in neutral. and the gearing and tire like he said. thats all I noticed. edit acc to clymers 87-89 = 401 90 = 408 must be gusset and smaller calip /spindals 91 += 410 add some saller hubs newer style calips/spindals small tires get rid of coolant bottle. Cut off the mounts w/ rubber dampner for the stock exhaust and the torrs box mount. Id guessin 30 lbs lighter more or less.
