Having A Spark Issue

Ok I got my new motor installed, but it is a bitch to start

When I got up to the dunes yesterday I took it off the trailer and got it started then crusied around slow for like 20 min, I then pulled up and killed it to let my dad have a go and it wouldnt start again.

Checked spark and nothing, tried new plugs and nothing. So after about 30 minitues of playing with shit and getting no where I put it all back together and was ready to leave, I gave it one more kick for the hell of it and it started WTF.

I killed it straight away and then tried to start it again but it wouldnt :shootself:

After like another 20 min of stuffing around the same thing

I got no idea whats going on.

When I rebuilt, I replaced the crank, pistons, clutch, reeds, put on an adjustable timing plate, lightened my flywheel and new carbs along with some other stuff.

Before this I still used the TORS system, is there any wiring I have to change that could be causing this? any other ideas?

Sounds electrical.

The parking brake could also cause it if the wiring is still installed. Make sure the wires are disconnected from the lever AND from the plug down by the radiator. Even more, be sure all the TORS crap is yanked.

I disconnected the parking break a long time ago, used one of the block off things

Whats the TORS stuff I remove, theres two black boxes below the radiator one has the plug wires going back in to it so i am guessing you mean the other one.

Yeah did a spark test and nothing, I checked the pick up clearence and it checks out too along with all the wiring as far as i can tell.

Going to bring it in to the shop tommorrow and let them worry about it, its starting to piss me off and if I keep playing with it i am likely to break something.

Ok heard back from the shop now and it seems they are stumped to.

They have found that if you kick the bike over normally it wont spark, but if you keep kicking it over really fast it will start up.

Also it is not any easier to start if its hot.

Anyone got any ideas? or had this happen to them?

Ok I got a theory

Now since I shipped my flywheel to the states to be lightened with my cylinders it would have gone through all sorts of xrays and scanners and shit.

Now for what I've read the flywheel contains all sorts of magnets and shit that work with the stator to create an electrial charge.

Could the xray/scanning have disrupted or weakend the charges in the magnets? possabally causing the problem I am having.

I am tired and probably talkin a load of :flush: but I am running out of ideas

I would check the CDI box first, with a borrowed known good one to see what happens. My bud had a CDI going out, and it was a bitch to start, and sometimes you would even have to pull it with another bike and pop the clutch to start it. Once the CDI was replace with a new one (aftermarket box of course) it starts and runs fine.

The Bike shop managed to get it running now, it was something to do with the wiring, once I provided them with a clymers manual that had a picture of the wiring harness it all came clear.

I got their mechinic to take it for a quick ride around the coast to make sure it was all running sweet.

So it looks like I will be good to go for this weekend, touch wood
