Hockey390
Yep, you guessed it.. My carbs are leaking gas. It is coming out of the tubes that come from the bottom of the carbs. Wasnt doing it all winter, put a fresh tank of gas.. Poof, leak leak. I shut the gas off and it stopped leaking of course.. But I ran it the other day and I burned up fuel like crazy. Is there something wrong with the carbs? Work done since this problem : Milled head, lightened flywheel Carbs are replacements that I got on ebay, but they didnt leak fuel from x-mas until 2 weeks ago.. Had fuel in the tank the whole time. wesw
i would adjust the floats and while you got it apart clean the carbs real good. should fix it
H300F
it has to do with the floats or the needle valve. adjust floats and clean everything.
nater006
Yup. Float level and/or needle valves. Both my needle valves have slight notches in them and the seats are probably worn also, so they leak from time to time.
BenBB
Everyone else is right on; check the float height and the float needle, all it takes is a grain of sand in the float needle and it'll piss fuel like mad. An outside possibiliy is that there's a pinhole in one of the floats, making it sink instead of float (but if both carbs do it it's a real long shot, when you pull the float needle shake the float and see if you can hear any fluid inside). If you find any dirt in there I would recommend an in-line fuel filter or at the very least pull the petcock and check the strainers, I've had one of those fall off and let crap into the carbs. Good luck.
Hockey390
How do you adjust the floats.. Are those the little black things, or is that the piece that goes around the jet.?
H300F
The floats are the black things. have the bowl off and turn the carbs upside down and measure from where the bowl seats to the top of the float, should be 20 to 22mm. make sure you take the bowl gasket off before measuring. and if they are out of whack, just bend them with your hand, the metal hanger they are on will bend.
