millhouse Posted April 5, 2004 Report Posted April 5, 2004 i have 2001 shee with fmf fatties. k&N filter. airbox lid on snorkel off and im at sea level. at the moment it is running 300 mains needle on #3 , 30 pilots, air screws out 1 1/16 out. plug is a darkish black. my problem is that it runs like garbage. i think it was faster when stock. it feels like there is absolute no power until powerband. and even then if feels like it is almost bogging or something. If any one has a suggestion or similiar mods, i would greatly appreciate your advice. thanks Quote
Ducman Posted April 5, 2004 Report Posted April 5, 2004 Did you try adjusting the air screws for the strongest idle and best off idle response? Is it ideling ok? Try turning them out to 2 or 2.5 turns out and see if that helps. Could possibly need to go down to a 27.5 pilot although mine does good with the 30's. It seems like you shouldn't be that far off. Maybe throw in a new set of plugs? I would look towards trouble shooting the carbs, seems like the jetting you have shouldn't be that bad. If you have a airbox that is modded with the intake flange that the filter clamps on so you can run with the lid off, you might try taking the lid off to see if leaning it out some makes it run a little better, that might give you a direction to head as far as jetting changes if that is what is causing your problems. See if that makes it better or worse and go easy on it especially at WOT untill you figure out the jetting. Quote
banshee76179 Posted April 6, 2004 Report Posted April 6, 2004 Sounds like your to rich on the pilots! try lowering your needle to the last clip! Quote
Banchetta Posted April 6, 2004 Report Posted April 6, 2004 Throw the stock pilots in and raise the needles one clip to the 4th notch from the blunt end.....Then pull the air box cover off...or mod it by cutting the last 1.5" off the end so you still have all 4 clips... this will help a lot...Running 300 mains is too big w/ the cover on... sredish Posted April 6, 2004 Report Posted April 6, 2004 Banchetta's got you covered. Mine liked a 27.5 and 310 main, but she likes it a little rich, do what he told you and you'll be in banshee bliss. Quote
BrokeStonedBiker Posted April 6, 2004 Report Posted April 6, 2004 i got fattys with whirebrothers air filter. i got 260 mains and i think 30 pilots but i havent checked. what you need to do it not cut your intake box if you run it in the mud and the muck. get some 260 mains and try them out. didnt you get jets when you bought your pipes? or did you buy the 300 instead? either change your jets so theres not as much feul or get some more air going in there. jrm312 Posted April 6, 2004 Report Posted April 6, 2004 i agree i think your rich on your mains you should probally be at 280 or 290 depending on the temperture by you. Quote
Tim C Posted April 6, 2004 Report Posted April 6, 2004 If you have a Pro-flo flange for your filter try taking the airbox cover off or drop 2-3 sizes in your mains. A few years ago I was running 270's in mine with Fatties, snorkel off with 6 one inch vents cut in cover,FMF Ram Valves, and case matched - at sea level and it worked great. I found it worked better with 27.5 pilots thenit did with the 30s in it. Quote
Rescuejeff Posted April 6, 2004 Report Posted April 6, 2004 I was running the same thing and started my changes. I have the cover off the bike from the filter box. The main is 320, pilot of 35, and it runs well mid through top alittle boggy in the bottom. Try pulling the cover off first and chech things out. I ride the dunes only. Quote
