Otis Posted March 30, 2004 Report Posted March 30, 2004 i just noticed the other day that the head pipes have a little play in 'em. They wiggle pretty easy(when not connected to the silencers). All the bolts are snug , springs are attached, and the o rings are in place. Is this normal? also, where the pipe connects to the motor, there's a lot of discoloring. Bluish almost purple color about 6" down the pipe. I've seen a lotta pipes "blue" before but never this deep of a color.. Could i be running too hot, or is this normal?? The pipes are Fatty's (if that matters) Quote
evil Posted March 30, 2004 Report Posted March 30, 2004 WEIRD, YAMMAHAMMERS BLUED REALLY BAD TOO. HOWS THE JETTING ? ARE THE PLUGS SHOWING A LEAN CONDITION ? AS FAR AS THE PLAT IN THE HEAD PIPES, ARE THE HANGERS TIGHT ? ARE THEY BUSTED OR SPLIT IN HALF ? ITS NORMAL TO HAVE A LITTLE MOVEMENT WHERE THE PIPE SITS IN THE EXHAUST FLANGE BUT NOT ALOT OF IT. IF YOU TIGHTEN EVERYTHING DOWN IS IT SOLID ? Quote
bigboybanshee Posted March 30, 2004 Report Posted March 30, 2004 I thought blueing was a good thing? If I'm not mistaken I read that if it's a brownish/copper color THAT meant it was lean....hmmmmmm Now I don't know what to think!! Can anyone say for sure??? Quote
Ducman Posted March 30, 2004 Report Posted March 30, 2004 My Gnarlies turn a slight reddish color for the first 4 to 6 inches, before the first bend, and I have held it at WOT for a hell of a long time on some hill climbs. I know that turning a deep blue is from being hotter than red but I cant tell you the exact exhaust temps that it indicates. I believe that the brighter copper brownish color I even hotter and comes after the blue. You might possibly want to go up a bit on the mains to bring the EGT's down a bit. Quote

IF YOU TIGHTEN EVERYTHING DOWN IS IT SOLID ? That's it(stock hangers)....The rubber middle is getting a little old and starting to crack and brake up, allowing the pipes to move. Thanks Evil. I'll have to pick up some new ones. As for the jetting, it was spot on(or so i thought) when i rode it out here, but took it to Dumont this past weekend, and ran like it was lean...not bogging..it kinda felt like it was "holding back". I changed a few things around tonight and am gonna take 'er out for a morning run and see how it is. I'm gonna have to pick up some extra plugs, so i can do a chop. Quote
bigboybanshee Posted March 31, 2004 Report Posted March 31, 2004 they have always blued since day one when it was rich That's what I thought the blueing meant...What jetting were you running before and now? THANKS!! Quote

bigboybanshee Posted March 31, 2004 Report Posted March 31, 2004 Thanks Yamahammer!!!! What elevation are you at?? Sorry for asking so many damn questions...this weekend I'm gonna have a jetting fest and want to have the best idea where to start. THANKS again bro! Quote
Banchetta Posted April 1, 2004 Report Posted April 1, 2004 There is one thing for sure, I had to go down 4 jet sizes when I got home from Dumont.....I live 1 mile from the ocean, so I know I'm at sea level...Dumont has more air density then Maine for some reason, so if anyone is traveling to Dumont, then your jetting may be off compared to home..... bigboybanshee Posted April 1, 2004 Report Posted April 1, 2004 sea level in cali like glamis THANKS! Quote
