dirtclod20
Last week i parked my shee and go out today to ride it started up fine, let it idle for a minute or so while i filled it up. Went out to ride and it was acting like the plugs were fouled, spitting and sputtering and after a few minutes it wouldn't take any throttle at all. Kinda like when the ebrake does it's magic, but I don't have any of that crap on my bike. I come back, change the plugs and fire it up, sounds fine, go to run it and it will rip for a few seconds and the start sputtering and doing the same thing. Last time I parked it, I was riding it pretty hard low on fuel. I hope that I didn't lean it out and mess something up. I'll give it a compression test tomorrow and report back, however it compression was the issue it wouldn't go from running great to shit in the same minute. Any ideas are greatly appreciated. What happends when crank seals go bad? Thanks in advance. Marc
BansheeBrian
I know that when the right crank seal craps out your right plug will expirience a rich to foul condition. No matter what you try to do with the carb you wil get black or red coloration on the plug. This can be answered by a leakdown test. Also your comp. reading will be low on the side your crank seal is spent. Your compression test will tell you if anything is up in your cylinders. Not to get you worried but when i blew a ring my shee went from running great to the thing burpin' and fartin" at any throttle position. In a matter of seconds this occured. dirtclod20
Brian, hopefully I'll know a little more in a few hours. But it will still kick in and run great, only for a few seconds and then go to spitting and running poorly. What happens when the cdi box goes out? ledofthezep
What happens when the cdi box goes out? In most cases, not a damn thing...until you replace it. You most likely wouldn't even be able to start it. If I were you I'd do a WOT plug check, see if it's maybe a jetting issue. Also, you may check for air leaks around the intake boots where your carbs attach....it could idle ok, but when you're on it--suck air & spit/sputter. Possibly a stator issue, I had spitting & sputtering problems at & only at WOT...replaced the stator & I had no more issues.(went with a stock wattage RS on adjustable plate) You can check your stator with an OHM meter. Hope this helps.
dirtclod20
Compression test was good, 120psi in both cyclinders. How do you check the stator again?
fixitrod
Almost sounds like it's running out of fuel. Is it possible the float height is not correct or the gas isn't flowing into the carbs fast enough?
dirtclod20
Can the float valve get out of wack from nothing at all. It went from running great one sec to running off and on every three or four seconds.
fixitrod
If you ran it really low, the floats would have had nothing to cushion themselves on when you were jumping. Maybe the force of them bouncing up and down without that cushion bent them.... I know... this is a long stretch. Maybe since you ran it low, dirt made it into the stock filters in the tank. I was looking for a more simple answer than stator ... that's all. Try running it on reserv and normal to see if it's different. Just kind of a weird problem. Do you have the tors hooked up. If so, unplug the box under the left side of the tank. Make sure all your grounds and connection are good. I had a bad ground up front that made it run like that. I seemed to happen when I turned right because it was pulling on the wire...lol.
boonman
Sounds like the coil wire on the primary side is screwing up. (loose connection). Check that out. Perhaps a bad reed. Or, lack of fuel. First, I would check the connections on the coil. Then, clean the carbs.
dirtclod20
I only have on carb, i cleaned it today and still no luck. The reeds maybe have 4 hrs on them, new TDR. However, i guess this still could be a possibility. I'll check the connections on the coil. Lastly I wasn't jumping anything, just going around a field. Any help
dirtclod20
Trouble was a melted water-pump impeller. Put me a new pro-design in there with new bearings and seals and all is running good thus far. I guess it was getting hot and causing it to run shitty. Glad it was a fairly simple, and a good investment fix. Marc
BenBB
It musta got damn hot to melt the impeller, if it was me I would double check the jetting just to make sure. Your compression sounds good, I couldn't really tell if you were saying the problem would come and go or just happen when hot; alot of times an intermittent problem can be electrical but hopefully you're good to go...
