I do not have any recommendation on the models of weapons

that you specified. I would just like to share something that I

found humerous. When I clicked on German Shepherd to view

his personals, I found that he had completed only one of the

optional fields. Under My Banshee he has quote "Factory Shee"

 It's not stock...it's a Factory Shee

OK. I'm done now.

I don't know about the .45 but I have a mini 14 and I love it. I've never hear of a mini 40 but I have heard of a mini 30. I don't have a mini 30 but I have an other 7.62x39mm and I like it too. Ruger makes a quality product, you can't go wrong.

I also own a Stainless Steel Scoped Mini 14 Ranch and it is fantastic for my use but I would not recommend for home defense. Get a good hand gun or a short barrel pump 12 gauge. Hearing the loud click-click of chambering a 12 gauge round will get anyone running the hell outa there in a heart beat.

If you are going to use a semi auto pistol for personal protection, I wouldn't necessarily recommend hollow points UNLESS you have shot a box or 2 and you know with out a doubt that they won't hang up on the ramp and jamb. My Desert Eagle hangs up on hollow points when I go target shooting, so I just shoot full jacketed ball nose reloads.

If you are intent on shooting hollow points no matter what, I would personally take a .357 mag double action snubby with a hidden hammer. My dads holds 5 rounds, but guarantee it won't ever jamb when he pulls the trigger. The bad part is I couldn't hit the side of a Mack diesel after about 40 feet with that snubby barrel.

Have you considered the Glock .40 or .45? The newer ones have finger grooves and rails on the frame. The rails allow attachment of a M3 or M6 tatical light. The light comes in handy in the dark and would be great for home defence. While the mini-14 is an excellent firearm, I feel that it is a poor choice for home defence. The reason I say this is because the .223 round has a tendency to over penetrate. It would be a bad situation you shot an intruder an the projectile went through the suspect and struck someone else. A shotgun would be my second choice of home defence.

Pre-ban clips fit right into the Mini14. I have a couple 30 rounders. But it still is not worth a damm for home defense unless you are defending a garage that is 100 yards away where most hand guns and short shot guns are not accurate enough. Re question on Mini14 jamming, I never had problem. However I have had problem with jamming with Ruger 10-22 when I bought cheap ammo. So I imagine the Mini14 could jam with low power or inconsistant ammo. Rugers like good fresh consistant ammo.

when picking a home defence gun def go for a big caliber that doesnt have a very high velocity

minimises the risk of penetrating throught the walls after a miss of the untruder and the risk of going throught he intruder and into another victim

i can tell you that a solid nosed 40 cal will go straight through one boys heart and into another victim .............................there was a case like that locally when a couple kinds about 13 or 15 broke into a local restraunt and got shot

there is also a similar risk when shotting another that is a 9mm as the smaller diameter vs. the high velocity isnt always a good thing

so stick with the bigger calibers like a 40 or 45 or best yet a 41 cal non magum load

its an odd round usually only found in a few revolvers but it has sucha slow muzzle velocity that test show it to only penetrate through one side of the drywall in an average house wall

so def. take some care into what rounds you choice in a home defence gun dont just put in the biggest baddest loadds that you can find

and in my opinion the rugers are a very nice gun indeed

i had the chance to shoot a friend H and K USP 45 that gun is absolutely unbelievable

the trigger is so smooth and easy and the gun is so well balanced and lightweight
