Hockey390
Hey all, I just wanted to let you all know something that will save you some cash if you get your head milled. You will need to replace your gasket after removing your head, and if you go to the stealership it will run you (what I paid) $21.31. Of course that depends on their mark up and whatnot, but I would like to let you know, that if you PLAN on sending your head out to be milled, when you send it out, put in an order on eBay for the top end, or top/bottom end rebuild which includes the gasket AND many MANY more seals and o-rings and everything that will be very handy. These can be bought on ebay for like $30 (includes shipping) and I would have much rather bought that, but I wanted to install my head today and not next week, so I needed it now. Conclusion : When sending your head to boonman to have it milled (DOES GREAT WORK!), purchase a top/bottom end rebuild kit off of ebay to save you money and get extra parts. banshee tuner
Anytime you buy something one part at a time it cost you, a package deal is always best even if you don't use the other gaskets it's good to have the extra intake gaskets cause it's easy to rip one while taking off your reed cages. Checkster... Thats one hell of a price.
99LRDblaster
is it safe to run the stock internals on the shee with .030 off the head? you just slap it on a lathe right? there is a machine shop nearby and i might suggest it to a friend if everything else internal is fine. pimp559
99lrdblaster no you can't just cut some off of the head. For it to be done properly you need to have your squish angle redone also. The squish is the slanted part around the inside of the dome. If this angle is not reshaped then when milling the head you are not getting the full effect of a milled head. With out the right squish angle you could experience some detonation. Make sure who ever does your head also recuts the squish angle to match how much the mill was. If not your pretty much wasting your loot and asking for problems in the long run.
Ducman
You don't need to recut the squish for .030, you wont get detonation. It may be better with the squish recut, but its more expensive ($125 vs $50), and if you get the domes rechambered you might as well take a little more then .030 off and get the full effect of higher compresion on race fuel or 1/2 race 1/2 pump. If you want to run pump gas then just get .030 milled.
pimp559
My local shop sells the head with the mill done and squish cut for like $120.00 with trade in. If your shop wants to charge like $ 150.00 for it done with the squish recut then I would just spend the extra money and get a Noss head for $200.00. fixitrod
The stock yamaha head gasket is the best gasket you can put on a stock head though. It WILL seal much better. That might make you sleep a little better
