cdcoxwell
hey guys, twice in two days I have been told that testing my coil w/a ohmmeter will not give me a correct reading. but the book says diff. What's the scoop???
blk02banshee
I'm pretty sure that an ohm meter is the only way to test it, and heard that you can get false readings. My friend had that happen on his husqvaurna coil. He had it tested and it tested good, but would'nt spark right, so he kept replacing parts with no luck, and after replacing the coil that was supposedly good, it turned out to be the problem. jinx44
Coils have primary and secondary windings. To check the primaries, you will go from post to post. This can give you a good reading, even though the secondaries are bad. To test them, go from one plug wire to a post. I had this happen on a 300ex. Exactly as blk02 said, we changed parts because testing across the primary winding showed a good reading so we thought the coil was good. Come to find out, it had shorted out.
