clint Posted March 23, 2004 Report Posted March 23, 2004 i just changed my carb bodies, used the same jets that were in my old carbs, now there is gas running out of the pipes. it is not a stuck float. only runs on one cylinder, gas poors out of the other, until i pull the choke out, then runs perfect.doesn't make any sense to me. i switched it back to my old carbs, and it does the same thing.any ideas would help, thanks. clint Posted March 24, 2004 Author Report Posted March 24, 2004 i have been playing with it, and now it seems to be ok as long as it is over an idle.if i try to let it idle it will drop a cylinder.pull the choke, and it will start firing again.i am running fatties, with k&n clamp on filters, stock pilots, 280 mains, undecided where the air screw should be so far.do you think i need bigger pilots? Nighty Posted March 24, 2004 Report Posted March 24, 2004 Could the carb slide be in the wrong way around? Or are the slides out of sync? Quote
KRMit Posted March 24, 2004 Report Posted March 24, 2004 If you put the slides in the wrong carbs, you'd be running super-rich. That could be it, but I don't see how pulling the choke would help or even how it would idle like that. Quote
MotulMonsta Posted March 25, 2004 Report Posted March 25, 2004 Gas running out of the exhaust pipe? Or the carb drain lines? If it runs better with the choke on, it lean. Quote
Banchetta Posted March 25, 2004 Report Posted March 25, 2004 How does it start when cold?? how many kicks and do you need the choke. Have you checked the compression? What is it? Make sure the equalizer tube is in place and the slide cutaway is facing the air box.. Quote
clint Posted March 25, 2004 Author Report Posted March 25, 2004 slides are in the right way,and in sync.gas runs out of the exhaust pipes at idle until i pull the choke.it starts in 1 or 2 kicks cold with the choke.brand new top end about three hours on it.still real good compression. Quote
sredish Posted March 25, 2004 Report Posted March 25, 2004 go up to a 27.5 on the pilot and move the needle to the 4th position from the top. That might get you on the good again. Fatties love the 4th needle position. Quote
clint Posted March 25, 2004 Author Report Posted March 25, 2004 it already is in the 4th clip.anyone have some 27.5 pilots? Quote
clint Posted April 3, 2004 Author Report Posted April 3, 2004 it seems like it takes forever to get it up to operating temp. too. Quote
Banchetta Posted April 5, 2004 Report Posted April 5, 2004 If gas is pouring out the exhaust then going richer won't help....check the float height, sounds like your dumping raw fuel into the motor...you might want to figure it out before you "wash your rings out" Quote
