ok, I have read the jetting faq 5 times, even printed it out and sitting on my work bench. played with the bike the other night and couldnt get it to idle right. Im still breaking in a new top end so i didnt play with it to much or rev the dog snot out of it.

heres the run down. bike ran great last season (stock motor, t-5s, uni filter, chopped air box lid, toomey jet kit) bike has 25 pilots and 290 mains now, and 450 feet above sea level.

over the winter redid the topend vito power pistons .020 over, cut head .030, lightened flywheel(thanks boonman), ported reed cages myself with stock reeds and cleaned up the jugs(I mean clean up too, no material removal, just polished the exhaust port and intake from casting marks and flaws).

bike starts up fine, but when i blip(1/8 throttle) the throttle it high idles and wont stop until I touch the gas again then it will idle down. I gave it half choke and it stops high idling but you can tell its a little to rich at half choke(doesnt rev clean and blows smoke) also when i rev the bike(1/4 to 1/2 throttle) it wants to stall when the rpms come down and I have to give it a little gas again to keep it from stalling. I sprayed all the parts intersections with WD so i dont think there are any air leaks.

so in conclusion from reading the jetting faq I am going up one size on the pilot to a 27.5 and raising the needle one clip and leaving the main alone as I believe the high idling is from it being to lean. I know I have to fittle with it as all bikes are different but I thought I would post this and see what you guys think? Opinions and constructive critisizms are welcome. Tell me what you think as I want to order some jets from magic racing to get it tuned in correctly, but figued I would post this first to see what size jets I need to put on the order list.

Thanks in advance guys as I know the jetting questions can get quite fustrating with all the jetting posts we get. I figured what the hell though, everybody else and there grandmother asks about jetting so why shouldnt I.

When I bought the bike it had t-5s on it and the guy told me he put the toomey jet kit in as well. I was suprised when i took the carbs apart this winter and saw it still had the stock pilots in it. guess the kit only adjusts the mains.

Toomey actually recomends the stock pilots, I know they run better with a 27.5 though. You have it figured out I think, sounds like you just want someone to agree with you. Well I agree, It is obvious when you pul the choke in it idles right down from high speed (lean). I would pick up a few more mains like a 300-320. You are probably OK for now but when you want to ride it when the temps. drop again you might want to richen it up. I wouldn't go more than a 27.5 pilot, unless you have more mods to account for the extra fuel, I have found 30's to be a bit much for most people.

hey i know this sounds dumb, i just had the same problem with my bike idled reaaly high till i hit throttle or pulled out choke then it woulg go away then come right back. the problem with mine was actually the throttle adjustment was holding my slides up alittle bit. i went through all the jetting stuff and idle screws and air screws and everthing you can think of. just really saying don't overlook the obvious like i did.

supposed to be around 3-4mm of throttle play before engagement. mine was off but carbs were still in sync. just tap your throttle and see if there is any play in it.

Your jetting sounds fine and your problem is not jetting related, svtkid hit it right on. you have a cable problem somewhere, if you can't find it, then get a new one because its fetching up somewhere, last thing you want is for it to stick wide open!!! :whoa:

cables seemed ok, but only had about 1mm of throttle play before engagement. im still guna try changing the pilots though. alreay ordered 10 pair of jets so I might as well mess around and see if I can squeeze any more ponies out of it.

wish my f*#kin shocks would get here so I can take it around the yard a few times.
