cdcoxwell
I have a 87 Banshee and its been sitting up for quite a while. I'm wanting to remove the flywheel nut but am not sure how. It's a little rusty. Should it come right off or do I need a special tool to remove the nut or is there some kind of special device that you use to remove the nut? Thanks in advance! Bensshee
Try a air impact wrench, that is what I use.

Hockey390
I have an 87 and just did that last week.. I took a pair of channel locks and gripped the small circular piece, then took a wrench and locked onto the wrench with another set of channel locks, had someone push on one while i did the other.. Spray some liquid wrench on it also. Other then that it should just take some muscle and you will get her off.. Then to remove the flywheel itself you need a special tool.. Banshee specific flywheel puller. I got one off ebay for $16.
BansheeBrian
Use something to hold the rear brake down.then use a chain wrench wrap it around the flywheel and lock it in tight.Make sure the chain is on the outside of the flywheel. Then put your torque wrench to the nut and and it should go.Definetly get a banshee flywheel remover.Dont even try to pry it off.The removal tool screws into the fine threads of the flywheel. The smaller piece screws into removal tool and puts pressure on the end of the crank drawing the flywheel forward then out. Keep an eye on that key you'll need it later.
blue95shee
If you uses a 1/2" impact it should take that nut right off. If it turns when you hit the trigger on the impact you have problems. Is the top end of the engine on it?? Even if you hold the flywheel with your hand and use the inmact it should still work. If will bounce around in your hand while you're doing it but it should still come off.
boonman
If you use an impact with at least hal a nut of power, you won't have a problem. I holt the flywheel in my one hand, and pull the trigger on the impact for about a second. Spins right off every time. Perhaps you shouldn't try to use an impact gun with only 20 PSI????? nater006
Hehe... I tried mine. Popped it in 6th gear and held the tire with my foot (didn't think of tying the brake pedal down.. d'oh!) and tried to back that nut off. No dice. Just going to do it on Friday with dad's impact wrench. I bet it gives about .01 seconds of resistance before that badboy takes it off. troyminator
I held the sprocket nut with a wrench and used an impact gun on the flywheel nut. T
