maybe just go all out, send jim the wholle motor right up to your throttle cable.....call him first send a deposit and kinda make an appointment, 2 weeks later you'll be riding a real fast bike and it will be loads of fun.....

The way I see it, your there. Why pay extra money later to go back in, when you're there, you might as well do the work.

I'd say go ahead and do a port job. Don't go crazy, get a light port job to help clean and smooth the ports, that alone will make a world of difference. From there, you can decide how you want your motor to be built in the future. I don't recommend going in and opening everything up to the moon. You need a lot of other mods to really support that, just a nice clean light port and polish would work wonders.

Good luck,

Scott

Porting is the way to go and if the cylinders need a bore job then go for it, you won't be sorry. Keep in mind that for all of this to come together you need pipes, re-jetted carbs, shaved head and yes, a trued and welded crank just for your motors sake.

Pipes: if you didn't already have aftermarket pipes then there is no way you would have ever found banshee power. I would get cpi in-frames for any type of riding.

Carbs: With a motor that has the ability to burn more fuel, you have to get it there.

Head: Normally with a port job you will lose some compression, shaving the head brings the compression back up, besides, 135lbs from the factory should have been 150 anyhow (what were they thinking)

Crank: Make sure its straight before you dump it in with your new goodies, then weld it so it won't be a problem later.

None of these mods are very expensive, most of the money comes from the pipes and porting, everything new should be around $800. Not much considering that it will be much better than a new bike.

For porting I would go with someone like Dan Wade @ Patriot. There are not many people that I would vouch for and I'm sure quite a few others could back me up on Dan.

I agree with everyone else, if you already have to tear it down and rebuild, as long as you have the money I would go ahead and go the extra mile now, because you'll wanna do it soon enough! I've already decided on my next rebuild I wanna have my crank welded and get a nice port job. I'm really tempted to send Jim @ Passion my engine cause I've heard nothing but great feedback about his work. Word of mouth is the best advertisement! Let us know what you decide!! Good luck

$$$ is always my deciding factor; if you've got the bucks don't hold back. You can always take it easy until you get used to the power increase (and that which doesn't kill us makes us stronger, heh). If not, do what you can, not sure what you've got for mods but: start with a fresh topend ($220 or so), shave the head ($30), new reeds ($40 or so), port the reed cages (free), find some pipes & silencers ($100-$400 depending), air filter setup ($30-$70), and dial in the jetting. Also make sure you've got decent rear tires and gearing for your application; all the power in the world won't help if you can't get it to the ground...

You won't be sorry. I would even be willing to bet that it would make you do better in school so later you can afford to really go off the deep end! Make a deal with your mom so that good grades could end up as mods to your banshee! Always wear a helment and show responsiblity on your bike, if not then that will be the first thing that mom gets rid of!

I wish I would have had a banshee when I was 15! Wait, I wish they would have made a banshee when I was 15, lol... Wow do I feel old!

Well i am gonna offer a different opinion

if you say the shee was a bit doey in the beginning and getting worse maybe just build it to standard specs and ride it like that for a while

it will give you a thrill and also leave more to do in the future

half the fun of owning a banshee is stripping it down and working on it!
