McSkinner
I've got a couple of friends who race KX 250's and they swear by retarding the timing. They say it gives them the holeshot everytime. Anybody try it on a shee?
banshee76179
I would advance it +
sandman121383
somebody correct me if i'm wrong but i think i remember reading to retard if you use nitrous oxide. just one situation? ? ?
banshdog
Never heard of any reason to retard the timing. Advance ur shee 4 degrees, its a cheap and easy mod.
checkster
typically advancing the timing gives you more bottom end and retarding the timing gives on more top end. good rule of thumb for NOS is 2 degrees retard for every 75hp. so a 400 shot and a car motor youd want to retard the timing 10-11 degrees when the juice comes on, but all motors are different on the timing they like. check
snowprophet1
The latest-greatest tech trick they started putting on factory sno-x race sleds, is a nice little button that goes into the cdi, that actually retards the timing when you sit at the light. That puts more heat into the pipe at the starting line. If you've read about the difference between cold pipe and hot pipe flow, hp, etc, this is the best hp trick for an awesome holeshot in snowmobile snow-x. Same probably applies to any 2-stroke racing. (I'll bet they don't have it in the retard-mode when they hit the throttle though!)
Nighty
So with an aftermarket cdi unit, You would have the best of both worlds? advanced timing for fast trothle response in the low revs and retarded timing for more top end. sounds good!
