BansheeJen
I was riding the other day and got off the bike to look down a hill, when I got back on the bike wouldn't start. Sat there for a bit and was about to get a tow strap and finally it started. Last night I'm cleaning the bike and prepping for a race this weekend. Well I get done and go to ride it in the trailer and well heck it won't start again. We checked the handlebar switch, the kill switch, the stator, the pickup coil on the stator, swapped a coil off a running bike, swapped a CDI off a running bike, checked all plug connections, looked for bare wires and yet we still have no fire in the hole. Anyone have any suggestions to try tonight or im out on racing this weekend.
sredish
Remove the spark plugs and caps and test the leads themselves to see if the caps are faulty. Your not running TORS correct? How did you test the ignition coil, checked for resistance right? The primary should have about .30 ohms and the secondary around 5 or 6 ohms. The pickup coil should have anywhere from 95 to 140 ohms. You said you ruled out the switch and checked for loose connections? If it's not one of the above, and you tried a cdi from a running bike, there's got to be something loose somewhere. Good luck and check back. PS - Sure you don't want to go duning with us this weekend?
ledofthezep
Yep, I'd start checking cables & connectors...Dunno though. Troubleshooting no-spark issues is no fun, I just went through all of that myself a while back. Keep looking around on it & checking things, you're bound to track down the problem. BansheeJen
Definitely not caps and wires we swapped the whole coil off of another bike wires and caps included. I guess we'll pull the wiring harness tonight and start looking for bad wires or connections there. Bad shee keeps this up shee'll find a new home and I'll get a new 450 instead. Scott i'd love to go to the dunes this weekend, but I'll be lucky if we get the bike running tonight. Tomorrow we finish the NOS install on my truck so the bike has to be fixed tonight or else shee's getting a can of gas and a match for dinner. We did check all the resistance and such on everything that's how we ruled everything out. I'm guessing it must be a wiring issue somewhere though since all the main components have been ruled GOOD. BansheeJen
Oh i'm all up for burning a 400ex. They make good fire kindling. Hopefully we can figure it out tonight. Shee's been pretty dependable over the years, thought maybe if I talk enough smack to her she'll straighten up and haul a$$ right. I couldnt burn it if I wanted to, only thing better than her is my truck!

BansheeJen
We pulled the cover last night to make sure that werent any visibly broken wires on the stator even though it tested fine. Everything looked good other than the air gap on the pick up may need to be regapped. We're going to pull the wiring harness tonight and see how it goes. Just wasnt meant to race I guess.
