Meat_Head Posted March 19, 2004 Report Share Posted March 19, 2004 Got the chance to race a couple of 450s last fall, they were said to have the lil mods that make them real fast according to their owners...I knew they were piped for sure but other than that i have to go with what they said was done to their rides. Anyway there is a 600-700 ft pavement strip that runs through our local sand pit and this is where we do most of our drag racing so while we were going at it they pulled up and asked if they could participate.I raced them both twice and none of them were within 12-15 lenghts at the end of the strip both times, a friend of mine owns a ported Shee with all the regular bolt-ons and was beating them by id say 5-8 lenghts everytime. Now i have no idea how these races would have went on dirt or sand but on black top they were not very competitive to say the least. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Get that hooking in the sand and dirt you'll win granted you have at least something decent in the way of mods. I've only seen 2 yfz450s out here, one I raced in teh sand with extreme haulers on my shee and it has holeshots, I won hands down, was a simple berm-berm race with a small section of woops at teh end of one berm. The other I met on the lake this year he had a head start because I didn't even ask to race my buddy hopped on his blaster and me on my shee and we went after the 450 and 400ex that were tearing off. Thats my experience. Call bullshit if you want I personally dont care, but thats my experience and the berm to berm guy races mx occasioanlly in the summer. I dont have my shee to race, I have it to go where I want when I want and do what I want. f*ck I can hang with 4x4 in the mud with my sand tires on. yeah thats most of thier eyes when they see me pull it off. And to be honest I dont have anything spectacular to my shee, t5's 35mm trinity 2-1 and a noss coolhead with 20cc domes, running 93 ocatane pump no detonation. The guy on the lake had to of easily weighed 50-75lbs more than me. The guy in the berms was probably within 30lbs of me. Take it for what you will. When did I say a banshee would lose to a 450 in a drag race? The banshee, having all top end power SHOULD beat a 450 in a 600-700' race but would you care to try that same race but on an MX track? Or cut that race down to say 200' on loose dirt/loam and see who wins and by how much. How about comparing a STOCK banshee to a STOCK 450? That is what I was referring to... If a PORTED, PIPE'D, MODDED banshee w/ ALL the bolt ons is close to a "pipe'd" 4 stroke, then I better rethink life since that would NOT be a fair comparison. fireman: Did I say the 450 would rev the SAME or LIKE a 2 stroke? Ya know what... You guys can go piss up a rope... Im all done trying to have a civil conversation w/ morons... Relax I was just referring to the only races i have seen those 450s take part in and they didnt fare too well...Since they came out i have been reading how incredibly fast they were with just a few simple mods,i have seen videos of them beating supposedly 70-80hp Banshees, 80hp Zillas and on and on... Would the outcome had been different in a shorter race? Sure, would they have won? Nope, they were falling behind right from the start.Now remember i stated that these races were held on pavement and also stated i didnt knew how those races would have unfolded if held on dirt or sand. theeechozen1 Posted March 19, 2004 Report Share Posted March 19, 2004 I dont see why all the drama is needed...I pretty much like all quads, trikes, dritbikes.... an xr50 tops out around 33 m.p.h. and I've had so much fun on those it should be illeagal. 660's 650's 450's 350's , they will all hold there own with the right rider. MotulMonsta Posted March 19, 2004 Report Share Posted March 19, 2004 I had the chance to race against a few around here. A good rider on any bike will smoke a shitty rider on the best. I've beatem them in drags and on the track..but last week it was a tie between me and the honda 450. I can get em off the line but one missed gear and they are all up on you...My third gear is on it way out..not a good thing..Anyways those bikes are fast right out of the box and are a lot easier to handle so in the long run they will beat a shee as the banshee rider will tire out quicker...least I do.
