Is Riding In Sand Similar To.............

Recommended Posts

............riding in plowed and disced up soil. We just plowed and disced up our tobacco patch to get ready to set tobacco pretty soon. Since we are going to disc it again later, me and my brothers have been drag racing and stuff in it. The soil is very loose and fine down to about 5 inches. I can only get to 3rd gear on my crf 150 and then it starts to bog down. My 400ex can get to 5th but it gets bogged. Its got holeshots so its got plenty of traction.

Is this what it's like driving in the sand dunes and stuff?

How would a banshee do in deep loose soil? Would it do alot better since it has top end power?

Probably not much like sand, more like a freshly plowed & disked field...sand is unique, hard to explain...just plain awesome. If you own a banshee you should definately, at some point in your life, try the dunes. It'll be a life changing experience. ;) They'll do great in deep, lose soil, if you can get traction. With a banshee, traction is the key in a lot of instances.

What kinda tobacco you growing? Never met a person who grew 'legal' tobacco.

Sand is 100% compacted at all times unless it is in a kind of airy fluffed up state from hill climbs and wheel spin but has very low cohesion unless wet and even then it is low. Plowed soil has like 40% compaction with a lot of cohesion if it has even a small water content. The sand is in essence harder than the dirt but looser. When your going slow in the sand like first gear it really bogs you down more than dirt but once your up to 3rd or so you have a lot of traction and can get on top of the sand unlike the dirt which keeps trying to compact beneath you. Hope that makes some sense to you.
