Milling Head

Recommended Posts

I just sent my head out to be milled by Boonman, and I want to get everyone oppinion on how far I should get it done.

I am running FMF Fatties, K&N with airbox modified, Twist throttle, TORS (still there <_< ), and he is also lightening my flywheel.

I run premium gas, and probably will run a higher octane starting this year. Cylinders are on stock bore.

Now you have all my info.

What do you all think? I do mostly trail riding, and get out to the dunes a few times a year. I probably want faster acceleration then anything, but let me know what you all have had done, and where you noticed it.

Don't go over .030" Anymore than that you can encounter squish problems. That ought to put you anywhere from 150-160lbs compression, low enough for premium, but won't hurt to run race gas. From my knowledge, anything over 160lbs you'll need a higher octane.

I milled mine .030 & did notice some power gains and higher compression. Haven't had any problems at all. No complaints. Fairly cheap mod, good bang for the buck. With the mods you have already, you'll be sit'n pretty. B)

I need to pick up my engine from the machine shop this week. I had the head milled .020 just to be safe. This is the first rebuild that I have done on my 89, but I am certain it has been done before at least a couple times. The reason I am telling you this is that I had to replace my crank due to excessive rod play at the small end. If you do not know the condition of your crank I would be cautious with adding additional power if the bike is still using the original crank. You stated that you are on the original bore, I would bet those cylinders are new or have been resleeved if that is true on an 87 Banshee. If a crank is needed I think I got a great deal from www.magicracing.com for a Vito's performance crank....Just my cents.

Talk to boonman

He does a great job, and does it for a real good price. He also has great turn around time.. He got m ine on a friday and sent it out monday.

Many people have had him do their heads and also lighten their flywheels, no one isnt fully satisfied.
