are you looking for new or used? have you ever riden a sport bike before? if not then i suggest that you start off on a 600. for example CBR600F4I. the insurance on the F4I will probably be a little less for then it will be for the R6 or the CBR600RR, ninja 636, GSXR600 because these are more of a race breed bike. all of the bikes are pretty reliable, if you have already spent alot of time in the saddle of a 600 sport bike then you can probably step up to a gsxr750 or even a liter bike. but the 750 and the liter bikes are not for beginners. as far as what bike is best for you it comes down to which one feels the most comefortable for you, go to the dealership and sit on the different bikes honda,suzuki,kawasaki,yamaha they will each feel different. you can ask to see if they have any left over models, that is a good way to save a couple bucks. dont listen to what the the mags say about this bike is better then that bike because it turns lap time a second faster at willow springs, its all bullshit 99.9% of the people out there cant ride any of these bikes to their full potential. i'm not brand loyal, i've had a 94 yamaha fzr600 and a suzuki 97 gsxr600. on 6/3/03 i bought a brand new 02 silver/black CBR954RR i know that its not the fastest thing on two wheels but it has plenty of power and for me its more comefortable then the other bikes that i sat on. and as long as your happy with your bike then it doesent matter what anyone else thinks. good luck and have fun.

SB07 is right on about how good the 600's really are. Also there are so many great used 600's for sale. You can't go wrong with any Honda F2 or F3. These models have all the high tech fully adjustable suspension and they are just a very short click behind the latest models in top end plus they have more on the bottom.I could not recommend any of the Duck's, not familiar enough. Just stay away from the 1000's. Yamaha is right there also but I just am not too familiar with various models.

I've rode 600's before, but I wanted more power, now whenever I get back from Kuwait in 6 months, I'm just gonna get a Hayabusa. Might as well get the fastest thing out there because you wil get bored with what you have,and will always want to go faster. This way, I can go a little faster each time as I get used to it, and when I finally get bored with the stock power, I can put a turbo on it. We have lots of open roads and few curves around here..

Josh, This thread is getting personal. Where do you live and will you be spending most of your time in the curves? The hardest thing to learn about curves is how to judge you correct entry speed so that you can stay on the gas all the way thru the curve. Anything over 100 HP and your learning curve is flat. 600'S are between 90 and 100 HP which is perfect.

I guess most Banshee sand and flat riders are too used to more is always better when it comes to horsepower but that just isn't the case on two wheels. I'm sure Texas will enjoy the rush of 150 HP in the straights. And you cannot really argue against a 750 either. There just isn't a big selection of 750s.

I think you can't go wrong with a good clean HON F2, ride it one year, don't crash it, and sell it for more than you paid. Then deceide for yourself what you want. And save some of that hard earned money for the Shee.

cause unless your name happens to be Bostrom...Gobert... Mladin.. Duhamel..., i doubt your even using half of what the bike has to offer.

oh and Josh I'd stay away from the Duc's as your first bike, untill your able to afford the upkeep on 'em ...service intervals are every 6k miles..and range anywhere from 300 and up per visit. They're a GREAT bike, don't get me wrong, just not a great first bike...

my cousing had a gsxr1100, and every time we went riding in the twisties, i'd smoke him. my f2 is a lot easier to corner with and has plenty of snap. my other buddy had a cbr900. when we lined them all up on a straight, i kept up till around 100mph, then they'd pull way. for most street purposes, i've found the 600's to be perfect. when i say street i'm not talking city streets though. mostly winding country roads, up and down mountains, etc. of course we have plenty of places to wind them out too, but it's not to often i've ever felt the "need" to exceed 160 anyway. :blink:

WELL THERES ALOT OF MOUNTAINS ACTUALLY ALL MOUNTAINS AND CURVES BUT THERE ARE STILL INTERSTATES AND STRAIGHTAWAYS AND YES IT IS MY FIRST STREET BIKE BUT I'VE RODE EVERY KIND OF DIRT BIKE IMAGINABLE SO I'M SURE IT WILL TAKE SOME GETTIN USED TO. ALSO I DO HAVE ALOT OF RESPECT FOR ANY MACHINE. SUCH AS THE BANSHEE EVERYONE AROUND HERE CALLS ME STUPID AND SUICIDAL FOR RIDING MY BANSHEE ON OUR TRAILS HOWEVER NEVER BEEN IN A VERY SERIOUS WRECK AND I KNOW ITS ALOT DIFFERNT FROM STREET BIKES BUT I JUST WANT SOMETHING I'M SCARED OF. I FOUND A 1998 CBR900RR FOR 2700 DOLLARS IT HAS ONLY 3600 MILES ON IT NO SCRATCHES AND NO WRECKS , NO SALVAGE OR REBUILT TITLE. AND AS FAR AS THE 750 AND 600 IN MY EXPIERENCE SO FAR THEY USALLY RUN ALOT MORE THAN THAT . I REALLY DO APPRECIATE ALL OF YOUR OPINOINS THEY MATTER ALOT. I DON'T KNOW WHAT I WOULD HAVE DONE WITH MY SHEE IF IT WASN'T FOR BANCHETTA. ANY WAY ONE MORE QUESTION. DO YOU PREFER CBR OR GSXR IN 750 AND 600. :cheers:
