"thenewguy"
today i put my frame up on blocks and ran it in first gear at idel speed to see if the axel was bent. the good news is that it wasnt. the bad news is that when i pulled the clutch to go to first gear the wheels where spinning even with the clutch held in. but when you ride it you have to let go ov the clutch about half way it starts to let go, so its not like its worn on that part. is this normal? i assume that its not. is there a way to see if it needs an adjustment or replaced? id like to know before i start stripping my gears out. any tips or suggestions welcome. thank you
MotulMonsta
Yeah, it's normal, the wheels will spin with the clutch pulled in. The plates won't seperate all the way without a load on them. You can adjust the clutch from two places, on the bar at the lever and inside at the pressure plate. If it works fine, I wouldn't worry too much until it becomes real grabby or starts to slip. Stuff
I noticed this also with my camaro which has a 4 speed manual as well as other manual vehicles. Even if the tranny is in neutral the viscosity of the gear oil and tight clearances will cause the output shaft of the tranny to spin. Also, when in gear, as MotulMonsta explained the pressure plates do not completely disengage which will cause the output shaft to spin. What you describe seems normal and nothing to be concerned with unless you can feel it slipping with the clutch all the way out and under power.
