MILO
i'm sure a lot of you guys wear chest protectors. it's ok, you can admit it, it's not a "sissy plate". personally i'm considering one cuz i've had open heart surgery a few years ago, and i'm not comfortable with the idea of chest/rib injuries. anyway, what kind would you suggest, as far as comfort, durability, and best deal? looking into fox or thor at the moment. SICK BOY
I just bought a Thor Aftershock chest protector, and I think it's great.Made very well,it's comfortable to wear, and it cost $69.00 from Dennis Kirk.
Wallrat
I never really liked chest protectors since they're pretty much useless as protection from anything except roost. I just got the Nemeses Body Armor from Rocky Mtn. and am very pleased. Basically its stretchy nylon with plastic and foam armor in the chest, back, shoulders, and forearms. It feels like it will do a decent job of protecting me if I spill. Walter roosted the hell out of me and I didn't even feel it. Also it wasn't terribly warm either. Roostfest had some very hot conditions and I thought for sure that this thing would cook me. I was warmer than if I wasn't wearing anything, but it did do a nice job of breathing. Sorry but I haven't tested it against a ground impact yet.
rebelbanshee2
I have the answer apex one, its pretty nice. my brother has the expensive thor one and its nice too. I would never ride without a chest protector! I got hit in the nipple once one a big straight behind a 310R...bought a chest protector right after than
MotulMonsta
I like the under jersey kind, the soft roost deflectors. the hard plastic kind impeded my motion a little bit. But it is a safty device and so will provide a greater degree of protection. BUT if you read the labes on them, they say they are not meant to provide protection in a crash, merly to deflect rocks and roost. Have you ever had a huge rock slam into your chest? it stings a bit. ledofthezep
I pimp the new Thor Force Protector...clear/silver mug. Very comfortable & breaths as well as protects very well.
XTShee
I dont feel safe when I dont wear my chest protector, Its saved me a few times. Endoed a jump and slamed my chest in to the bars, didnt hurt as much as it could have. Also I like to wear a camel back and carry a few tools in it as well, if you came off and land on your back witout the protector between you, the wrenchs, screw drivers and spare sparkplugs could end up making quite a mess of your back. I run a shift chest protector, I find it a lot more comftable than my old fox one. I think they are well worth the money. The only time I didnt wear my protector I broke my coller bone in 3 places

kenr74
I don't wear one on the quad(I should though) but I used to on my dirtbike. They can take a lot of beating and save a lot of ribs. I smacked a tree once on my YZ250 and damn near ripped the bars off. Went chest first into the tree and just scratched the protector a little. dnhyoung
can anyone recommend one for a bigger guy. I have found that most of the are designed for small to medium build, and just are comfortable or just to damned restrictive for the larger rider
MILO
i'm glad you guys brought up the under jersey kind. i thought they wouldn't do much for a crash, just good for roost protection. i saw the thor force, and they look pretty cool. but i kind of like the hinged back on the fox airframe. and they are about the same price. well, after some of your stories, i'm definitely gonna get something. might head to a local shop tomorrow and scope them out a little more, rather than just looking at pics. thanks for the input. MILO
can anyone recommend one for a bigger guy. I have found that most of the are designed for small to medium build, and just are comfortable or just to damned restrictive for the larger rider i saw that the fox air frame has about the largest size. up to 6'9", and 300lbs. don't know if that's in your range, but it's about the biggest i've seen. i know its hard to find stuff for the big guy. the 300 lb size probably still wouldn't fit my dad, but he's working on losin it.
