boonman
Man oh man!!!! I just got my computer back from our IT guy. As some know, I don't even own a computer. But, my work laptop, is the one I use. And, on Thurs. morning, when i was writing a program for a new machine her in the shop, it decided it didn't like me anymore, and crashed. BIG time. Lost the entire thing. Hard drive lost it's partitioning or something. Everything was lost. Unretreivable. And the kicker, NOTHING was backed up. It was never brought up as an option. So, there I was. No HQ, No E-mail, not a damn thing for almost 6 days. Sorry to the numerous folks PM'ing me that didn't get replies untill now. And to the people that sent their stuff to me and didn't get tracking #'s right away. It is all better now. New hardrive. Back in business!!!! So, back to programming and tuning I go....... Cotton eyed Joe
I'm about due for some shop floor computers. Right now....get ready for this.... they are 486 PentiumII laptops from 1991 and 1993 (I think). I still utilize windows 3.1!!!! LMFAO!!!! We don't need any more processing power than that to DNC. If one of them goes out, thats about 10 years worth of my life that I have to find prints for and re program. Most of it is on the new HP upstairs now though. boonman
Man!!! I know what you mean. I still have a 386 laptop, complete with an 8" monochrome monitor. YEEEEHAWWWW I still have to use it once in awhile. And yes, back the old ones up there Stan. I just lost 4 years worth of ACAD drawings, changes, modifications, everything I had. GONE. Programs. Motion control programs for 8 axis machines. Gone. It's all gone. My fault for not backing it up,. but it is the companies fault for not providing anything to do it with.... Too little too late.... This computer isn't much better than a 486. It's still running Win 98. It's a POS.
sredish
Oh, man. Let's just call this shitty computer week! My computer crashed about a week ago. Last night was the very first time I was able to use it. I had to have my hard drive reformatted and my os put back on. I have been installing and updating for the last 16 hours. My eyes hurt and I have a huge freaking headache. To make it worse, I had two big meetings, one on Friday and one yesterday. For both meetings I needed several files off of my computer. Well, didn't have those, had to spend all weekend working on my wife's to redo the files and I had to redraw two huge blueprints. I'm going freaking nuts. I am just now getting this thing back to normal, only bad thing is only half of my documents were saved, mostly the bad shit I don't care about. Boonman, sorry to hear about your predicament, hope it everything gets back to normal.

ledofthezep
If it weren't for computers I wouldn't have a job. Nor would WE have the HQ! Now just what would we do withouth the HQ? It's still ok to hate them though, I have a love/hate relationship with them. Just imagine spending your day talking over the phone telling people what to do & how to fix their crashed computers, heck, I just got off a 2hr phonecall helping an 80yr old half-def lady run her recovery cd. I need a beer.

I'm much happier now, I'm shoveling down some Mcdonald's and feel much better, or maybe it's brcause my axle just got here.

That will change once you go to remove your old axle, better take some vitamins with that Mcdonald's.

.
wb boon, havent been getting home from work early enough to get a hold of you at all, pm me your address so I can get these stars out to you. On a side note, I wouldnt use nuts on the end of the axle to get it out, You'd have a much harder time finding the die for the axle thread that you just messed up than a socket that you can throw against where the hub seats to beat on. Nighty
Hey boonman, I dont wanna get your hopes up but even from a completely crashed (fysical(hardware damage)) harddrive data can be recovered if needs be. There are data recovery companies who can really do magic stuff. its costs some $$$ but since its for the business it might be worth looking into. Sorry man harddrives crash alot.. take care people! i know its nuts to have shit on cd floppy and on 3 harddrives but i cant tell you how much my putter crashed whenever i needed to do something for school or lost documents the day before.. crap like that.. lol even 1 time one of my files was corupted couldnt open it and i had it on cd.. cd unreadable.. well f*ck THAT.. those where the times i cursed at everything and asked WHY .. why G@(*DAN!IT why! Ive become more efficient of recovering data since then

boonman
They won't pay to have the data recovered. Our company is el cheapo!!! Friggin bums. They won't even get me a new laptop, or even a desktop. So, I just keep chiseling new programs out of stone, and whittling parts out of wood. Someday..........
