Trouble T
I went riding the other weekend and met up with a guy who had $200 PIAA lights on his Raptor. His buddy had $20 driving lights from The Auto Zone on his Banshee. The $20 driving lights were brighter than the PIAA. I went to Auto Zone and cannot figure out which driving lights to buy. I do not want to mess with the stator. Does anyone know of lights that will work with the stock stator that will be brighter than the stock lights. Most of the driving lights were 55 watts. Can I use 55 watt bulbs with the stock stator? Will they be brighter?
Wallrat
my understanding is that you can use 55w bulbs but they won't be as bright as 35w since you don't have the juice to run em. Also you risk burning up wires due to the added current draw. That said, I've got 55w bulbs on my bike with a stock stator and haven't had a problem yet. I'd like to find some 35w bulbs but have only found piaa bulbs in that size for $50/pair.
nater006
Yep. You can throw any sized bulbs you want in there but if your stator can't push 'em, they'll actually put out less light than smaller bulbs that your stator *can* push. The quality of the lights is a huge thing, also. Keep in mind that the PIAA may have not been adjusted, or that there may have been other things in the background (e.g., rewound stator, battery) that weren't readily apparent. Better quality lights should almsot always be better, but only if they're adjusted right and pushed by the right amount of juice

TopBulb.com has all the bulbs you need and can you can order the wattage that you want. If you want to order them in 35w, check them out. 350duner
Were they equal wattage bulbs and pushed with equal power? The cheap ones may have been brighter, I've seen some that put out decent light. I used a cheap pair of 35w driving lights on my R. They were great... for about 3 hours. That's how long it took until the fillament in the bulbs broke out. So I guess there is a downside to cheap lights. Now i'm running Ricky Stator aluminators and havent had any problems. I have 35W ones and will run 55W when I get the stator redone. Besides, with those if you break a bulb you are only out $8. You can get Trail Tech/ Lazerstar lights for a little over $100.
