Best Setup For 8200 Ft.

89NOS

Recommended Posts

Need advise: Anyone have a good suggestion for a starting point to set up the following at 8200 ft. altitude, considering current mods:

Mods: Drag pipes, cylinders bored twice, wiseco pistons, ported & polished, cool head, K&N dual filters, NOS (never used, yet), race gase & plugs, Boost bottle, (yes or no).

Setup?:

Jet Size?

Dome Size?

Thanks for any help

Hell yeah it runs that high, I live in Colorado. The nearest place to ride is the Walden sand dunes. Usually about 1000-2000 people up there on Memorial day weekend!! :D They run pretty damn good, oviously not as good as Glamis but good enough for when you don't live in Cali.

Yeah, you don't want to get stuck in a hole and have to dig out! :o You'll be gasping for air. Cool, thanks for the input. I have a 89' shee and would like to maximize the responsiveness, right now it seems to hesitate just a little, not snappy revs like the new shee's. I usually run 110 octane.

Thanks

You really don't need that octane unless you get some custom domes made for the elevation and octane (which would have a teenie tiny dome) I ran 15cc domes on 91 octane for a couple years with no detonation. You could actually be losing a little bit of horsepower by running too high of an octane. Lower octane = More explosive flame = more power. The lowest octane you can run without detonation is going to be the best. I doubt there are any bikes at walden that need to run anything over 91, they just do it because they think they need it and it smells good. They're just pissing their money away.

That's interesting because it really does seem to run a LOT better on the race gas than it does with the 91 though. I'll have to do some experimenting, hopefully you are correct and I just need a better setup with jets and domes, that would save me a lot of money in gas, especially with our expected $3. p/gallon this summer!

thanks

LOL I used the same jetting I have here at 45 ft above sea level as I did at anywhere from 8000 ft to 11000 ft above when I went to Wyoming with my friend...

It actually ran great it didn't have as much power as it did down south but it didn't foul out a plug for the whole 2 weeeks of all day riding in the mountains...
