Clutch Slipping?

Recommended Posts

well when my power band kicks in its like my front sprocket is slipping but I know its not and I can hold it full throttle and it just revs up and then it finally starts going in my higher gears, so how would I know if it's slipping? and my clutch basket has grooves in it too. Thanks, Jonathan

I have no ideal how old it is because i got it in a trade, and i don't know what it's suppost to look like either and it's the stock basket, and it's an 88' so I have know clue, I just know I saw grooves in my fingers on my baskets and I heard thats when you need a new clutch

The friction plates (not the flat smooth outside-edge steel ones) should have some material on it if you look at it from the side, If its worn off or the other steel plates look blue (hot)= new clutch. Thats what it sounds like.

If your clutch basket has SMALL grooves, you can file them smooth. If they look too deep get a Hinson. Im pretty sure the groves just make it hard to shift in and out of gear, and wouldnt cause slipping.

Was there big rubber o ring looking things between the plates?

sounds like a slip to me.

Go to RockyMountainATV.com and buy yourself a new clutch. The Tusk clutch is supposed to be great and very inexpensive, I have just switched to the EBC Dirt Racer and so far I love it.
